the-mans-book1The Man’s Book: The Essential Guide for the Modern Man by Thomas Fink

Description:

Being modern and manly in today’s world isn’t always easy.
Do you know how to tie a bow-tie, mix a martini, or make a potato gun? Do you know when to get married and how to break up, or the difference between a bock beer and a bitter? Do you know which urinal to choose or how to start a fire with a Coke can?

The answers to every man’s burning questions are within these pages, from the morning wet shave to the whiskey night-cap, from hunting deer with a .30-06 to wooing women like 007. At a time when the sexes are muddled and masculinity is marginalized, The Man’s Book unabashedly celebrates maleness. Organized by subject in a man-logical way, it’s the go-to guide for anyone with a Y chromosome.

My thoughts:

My husband is planning on reading through this, but hasn’t gotten around to it yet. I’ll share his thoughts once he gets a chance to look at it. That’ll be the true test, really.

I am amazed by how many topics Fink covers. He lists the essential books and films for men and teaches you how to play Texas Hold ‘Em. If you ever wanted to know how to tie a square not, it’s in there, and there’s a whole section on drinking. Granted, he can only touch briefly on each subject, but that’s the point. It’s a fun, fact-filled book and you never know when you may need to choose the correct urinal. Well, I won’t but a man might and it is The Man’s Book.  There’s also a section on ironing a shirt and the best way to cook a steak, which is not on the grill, so he’ll have no more excuses. And he’ll be able to make you a perfect gimlet.

  • I was just looking at this book at Borders over the past weekend, and almost bought it. The book looks like a great, modern, and appropriate guide to being a man. I can think of a few men in my life to share this with (specifically the section on how to tie a great looking tie knot).

Please include me in your giveaway. I’d treat the book as a “pay it forward” loaner. No one can keep it; you just read it, sign your name with a word of advice in the front cover, and then pass it on to the next man.

    Kudos!

    A.
