  • You and your adventuring companions have spent all day slogging through the Dungeon, killing monsters and taking their stuff. Now you’re back in town, healed up, cleaned up, and ready to party at the Red Dragon Inn.

Drink, gamble, and roughhouse with your friends. But don’t forget to keep an eye on your Gold. If you run out, you’ll have to spend the night in the stables. Oh… and try not to get too beaten up or too drunk. If you black out, your friends will continue the party without you… after they loot your body for Gold of course!

The last conscious adventurer with Gold wins the game!

Take on the role of one of four heroic fantasy adventurers — Dierdre the Priestess, Fiona the Warrior, Gerki the Sneak, or Zot the wizard — and enjoy an evening at the Red Dragon Inn!

    My thoughts:

Red Dragon Inn 2This is a fun game, easy to learn and play. The card are sometimes laugh out loud funny. Reading the cards as you play them makes almost a mini-conversation. We always play with Red Dragon Inn 2, which adds 4 more characters to the mix: Dimli the Dwarf, Eve the Illusionist, Fleck the Bard, and Gog the Half-Ogre. It also allows us to play with up to 8 people, but both can be standalone games.

Each of the characters has their own personalities, their own strengths and weaknesses. Some seem to be better at drinking, others better at gambling and others just flat out beat you up, whether they mean to or they just want to dance.

There are a couple of downfalls to the game. One is that players are elimated, which leaves you with nothing to do until the games over. Or leaves you with nothing to do until someone else is knocked out too, then you can play foosball. The other negative is that it’s fun and simple and would be great for Amber (9) to play if it weren’t for the whole gambling and drinking theme, which is the reason it’s suggested age is 13 and up.

It is a fun change of pace, but not something I want to play every night.

We also have a pre-release version of Gambling? I’m In! that we picked up at Origins. We haven’t played with it yet, but I guess it allows you to actually play a gambling game at the Red Dragon Inn table. Ours came with a 93 card Rogues and Warriors Deck and rules for 7 games. I guess when it’s released, though, it will come with tokens, dice, the works. In theory, you can also play the games outside of the Inn, maybe as a variation of poker night, or as part of your role-playing game. I should open it soon so I can let you know if it’s any good.

Have you played any good games lately?
