Montana Legacy by R. C. Ryan

This is a fairly predictable romance that takes place on a ranch in Montana, but I truly enjoyed it. It’s not a great book, it’s just a nice, tender romance. I had tears in my eyes a few times, but just because I’m me and cry easily over fiction. (Which is why I avoid tearjerkers.)

Jesse is the cowboy who grew up on the ranch, and now, after his grandfather’s death, owns it. His two cousins, who he hasn’t seen since they were children, come back for the funeral and stay. They’ve both missed the ranch and family in their own ways and now see the opportunity to make it home again.

Amy, a neighbor’s daughter, is also back in town for another reason, but she and Jesse were in love when they were teenagers and of course are still attracted to each other.

The heat that sizzled through his veins was like an electrical charge causing him to jerk back. But not before he caught the look of surprise in her eyes. Surprise and something more. If he didn’t know better, he’d swear he saw a quick flash of heat. But that was probably just his pride tricking him into believing in something that wasn’t there, and hadn’t been for years.  (pg. 43)

I told you it was predictable, didn’t I? The romance plays out against the cousins’ search for the legendary McCord treasure that their grandfather had been devoted to finding.

There’s a little danger and some tension. Gold Rush is a town where everyone knows everyone else, secrets and all. Gossip about Jesse and Amy, the three cousins and the treasure hunt runs rampant, but who is actually trying to kill Amy and why? Is Jesse actually their target?

Although there’s a lot of passion involved, there’s only one sex scene and it takes place in a barn. That may be why cowboys aren’t really my thing. Sex in a barn doesn’t seem romantic or sexy to me, more itchy and sneezy and miserable. Oh, and smelly.

Are cowboys your thing? What about treasure hunts? I’ve got five copies of Montana Legacy to giveaway. To enter, just leave me a comment below April 22. I’ll post the winners the following day. This one’s open to the US and Canada only, no PO boxes, and 18+.
