Gertrude didn’t say anything, perhaps because of the walnuts.

“It’s a . . . private joke,” Daisy said weakly. “Like Cinderella. Linc would like it.”

I’ll be starting this one later today. It’s only the second of Crusie’s that I’ve read, but I’m looking forward to it, especially with the Cinderella references.
