Muppet Peter Pan by Grace Randolph, Amy Mebberson,
and other very talented people

(Suggested Reading Level: Grades 4 and up)

I love the Muppets, as just about anyone who knows me will tell you. I have almost all the various movies and DVDs of The Muppet Show, I have at least two Muppet t-shirts, have worn out two Kermit purses, have a Muppets in Space playset with Miss Piggy, a Kermit puppet, a Gonzo Pez dispenser, not to mention my Kermit hat that totally embarrasses Amber every time I wear it. Wow, when I list it like that it seems a little crazy.

Anyway, so when I saw this book at The Written Word, I had to read it with Amber. This graphic novel was just a blast. It’s based on Peter Pan, but takes plenty of liberties with the story as you can imagine. Kermit is Peter Pan, selfish, but still cute. Miss Piggy is a bossy, karate master Piggytink, who is of course in love with Peter. Amber’s favorite was Janice as Wendy; her hippy personality just came out so well.

Peter Pan takes Wendy and her brothers to Neverswamp, where Peter’s arch-nemesis Captain Hook, played by a disillusioned Gonzo, awaits. There’s some misunderstandings, some singing, an attempted mutiny by Rizzo and his rats, just a bunch of fun and silliness. Exactly what I was expecting. And I loved it.

  • This sounds like fun. Miss Piggy and Kermit crack me up 🙂 Your Kermit hat must be cute. When I was little, I went to see Muppet Babies on Ice at the icecapades…lol.

  • Omgosh, don’t ever say blogs don’t sell books, because I didn’t know this one existed and I MUST have it. I grew up watching Sesame Street with my Uncle (he babysat while my mom worked). I watched The Muppet Show with my dad on the weekends (my parents were divorced). My favorite cousin had several muppet stuffed animals and was able to “talk” for them in voices that sounded just like what I heard on tv. I have a very strong emotional bond with the muppets and Kermit is one of my favorites. I. Must. Have. This. Book. (going to look for it now)
