Like many people, I could stand to lose more than a pound or two, so when The 17-Day Diet came out, I thought I’d give it a try.

The 17-Day Diet is set up in 4 cycles , each of which lasts 17 days. I’m still in the first cycle, Accelerate. It’s designed to give you a quick start to losing weight. In theory, you can manage any plan for only 17 days, but I probably shouldn’t have started it the week before Easter. It is a very easy to follow plan, but look at all those yummy Peeps and chocolate eggs and  cherry pie. Back to the book. Basically, it gives you a list at the beginning of each cycle of the foods you can eat. The first cycle is mostly poultry, fish, a bunch of vegetables and some fruits. He also want you to drink green tea and eat two probiotic servings a day. Now I hate yogurt and tea, but low-fat acidophilus milk tastes just like normal, so I’ve been drinking it and taking a green tea supplement. Close enough for me. There are a few recipes and 17 days worth of meal suggestions, but really it’s not tough to think of meals that use chicken, turkey or fish and veggies. And it makes shopping pretty easy. I always hate diets that want you to find impossible to find foods or 18 million ingredients for just one week of meals. This is simple and even I’ve been losing weight. I can only imagine how well I would be doing if I didn’t cheat so much.

I’m looking forward to Cycle 2, when some of my favorite foods get added to the list, to eat every other day, like brown rice, oatmeal, sweet potatoes.

And yes, you are expected to get up and exercise, at least 17 minutes a day. Not something I’m necessarily good about doing, but David and I have been trying to get out to the track like 3 times a week. I walk the dog about a mile on my lunch hour most days, as long as it’s not raining. (He hates the rain.)

Overall, it works, and that’s what a diet plan is supposed to do – help you lose weight. And it’s simple. It also has some helpful chapters like how to manage the holidays and eating out.

I received my copy for review and the above is my honest opinion.

  • The Every Other Day Diet is build on a specific concept: On one day you eat high-protein foods which help you to burn fat fast, but on the other day you can eat practically what you wish!
