The Thrill Ride Questionnaire

What is your favourite genre out of Thriller, Mystery, Suspense and Horror? Why?

My favorite is Mystery. I don’t really know why, I’ve just loved mysteries since I was a kid, starting with Nancy Drew and quickly moving up to Hercule Poirot and Sherlock Holmes. I like the strong personalities the detectives usually have, whether they’re professional or amateurs. I like the who dunnit, even if I can never figure it out.

Who are your top 3 authors in those genres?

It’s so hard to choose. I’m picking three  that have stood the test of time. Agatha Christie, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Ngaio Marsh

Tell us who your favorite male and female authors are in the genre?

These are my current favorites. This list could look very different at the same time next year.

Male:

  • Brian M. Wiprud
  • Greg Iles

Female:

  • Louise Penny
  • Kate Wilhelm

What book do you remember loving but don’t remember the details? Maybe you should read it again now.

Dracula. I know I’ve read it, but it’s pretty hazy at this point.

What has been your favorite book this year so far:

I am so bad at lumping things into different genres, so I’m doing my best here.

Thriller – Caught by Harlan Coben

Mystery – Have Gun, Will Play by Camille LaGuire. Okay, it might not have been the “best” mystery I’ve read, but it was the most enjoyable. There’s definitely a difference.

Suspense –  In the Woods by Tana French

Horror – In general I don’t read horror. I don’t think I’ve read anything yet this year that would fall into this category.

What series or trilogy would you recommend in these genres?

All of the series I read tend to be mysteries, so I’d recommend the Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny, but the fact that it’s the one I’m currently listening to probably has me a little biased.

Recommend 1 or 2 books that you think more around the blogosphere should read.

A lot of bloggers have already read this, but I loved The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins, and I thought Pipsqueak by Brian M. Wiprud was funny and quirky.

What authors have you tried and look forward to reading more from them? Maybe we can give you suggestions on what to read from them.

I enjoyed Michael Connelly’s The Black Echo, but haven’t read anything else by him. I read Boy’s Life by Rober McCammon and loved it, but he’s another one I haven’t gotten back to, along with Colin Cotterill and Lawrence Block.

What authors in the above genres are on your TBR list but you haven’t tried yet?

Jo Nesbø, Dorothy Sayers, Ted Dekker, Laura Lippman

Who else should be on my list? Who should I read soon?

  • Thanks for participating.

Everyone truly has said HarlanC, I need to read him obviously.

I want to try Moonstone, interesting indeed.

I am definitely reading Greg Iles this year, can you think of a favourite by him?

Every day is a new topic, giveaways etc on my blog or one of the featured hosts.

  • Wow, lots of new to me names! Very exciting! I have not read Moonstone yet, but will have to get my hands on a copy soon! Ted Dekker is on my to read list as well. I am going to check out these names and titles that you have mentioned!!

  • Lots of authors here I’m unfamiliar with so I’ll have to look into some of them! And I’ve been meaning to read The Moonstone for ages – I’ve heard nothing but good things about it!

  • Yay! Another Louise Penny fan – my favourite series.

I like Greg Iles too, and Michael Connelly. Wilkie Collins is great – both Moonstone and The Woman in White……..and Tana French.

Haven’t heard of Pipsqueak so will have to check that out.

  • I picked up Moonstone at Border’s the other day. It’s so big I don’t know when I’ll have the time to read it, but having it in the house is half the battle 🙂 I do want to try the Louise Penny series and In the Woods. I haven’t read The Quiet Game by Iles yet, but I plan on reading my way through his backlist.
