Today’s flash fiction picture is just screaming YA urban fantasy, not a genre I’m very familiar with, but I gave it a shot anyway.

She Was Back

She was back, and this time they would play by her rules. She had tried it her mother’s way, blending in, being good, a typical teenager. She was done. Jake had shown her it was impossible to hide any more. He had pushed too far, thought himself irresistible, not believed her refusals. She had had no choice. When he first saw the blue streaks of power radiating from her hands, he had just stared at her in amazement. Then, they hit him in the chest and the last thing he saw was her smile. She had torched the body. And knew she couldn’t contain herself any longer.

She walked into the high school, along with the masses, but she could feel the stares. She looked the same as she always did, shirt just a little too tight, skirt skimming the top of her thighs, long hair swinging behind her. But her attitude had changed. She walked up the stairs as if they were a red carpet, laid for her alone. She felt strong and in control. She sauntered down the hall, lockers slamming shut as she passed, papers swirling in her wake.

“Shayna,” the math teacher had poked her head out of the classroom. She glared and kept going. She had a goal.

She entered Room 206, locking the door behind her and pulling down the blind that covered the small window. No classes in this room until second period. The man sitting behind the desk looked up, smiling as he took of his glasses and stood. He was middle-aged, but still sexy in a Johnny Depp kind of way. “What can I do for you Shayna?” She laid her books on the table under the whiteboard and walked up to him, trapping him between herself and the heavy desk, knowing she was closer than he wanted her to be. Despite all the girls who had crushes on him, he had never done anything inappropriate, at least until now. “Mr. Simpson, can I tell you something?” She touched his bicep, sending a pulse through him, claiming him. She her hand to the back of his neck, pulling his head down, meeting his lips with her. He was hers.
