Vacations to exotic islands, murderous train rides, thrilling cross-country chases – just some of the ways I’ve traveled by reading.

Here’s my top ten books featuring travel in no particular order.

  1. Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie – As a mystery lover, I have to include this classic mystery aboard the train.
  2. Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert – I loved reading about Gilbert’s travels through Italy, India and Bali and her journey to self-discovery.
  3. Have Gun, Will Play by Camilla LaGuire – Fun  western mystery where a pair of  young married gunslingers, one of my favorite literary couples by the way, are hired to escort a child and her toys to a safe haven.
  4. The Brutal Telling by Louise Penny – I fell in love with Haida Gwaii when Inspector Gamache took a short trip there as part of his investigation.
  5. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams – A hilarious journey through the galaxy.
  6. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan – A cross-country quest to save the world, standing beside loyal friends and facing evil monsters. Oh and the gods are, well, the gods.
  7. Hotel du Lac by Anita Brookner  – A beautifully written book about a woman who escapes to the quiet luxury of a hotel in Switzerland.
  8. Saving Grace by Pamela Fagan Hutchins –  A woman escapes her life by taking a vacation in the Caribbean and decides to stay.
  9. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen – Train travel is a must for the circus.
  10. Nine Princes in Amber by Roger Zelazny – Corwin has to travel through the Shadows to reach the throne of Amber.

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
