Here’s my plan, more or less. (SS stands for strength training/stretching; CT stands for cross-training)

training plan

Since last check-in, I finished Week 7 and am starting Week 8.

If you read my last week’s update, I got thrown a bit off schedule. Tuesday, my plan was to do the 3.5 mile run from Monday and then do the 20-mm SS. I didn’t do so well. I decided to run outside, which was the wrong choice, I think. It was hot and muggy and my run was pretty miserable and involved more walking than I’d like to admit. My pace ended up being 12:52 min/mile. After dinner, we went out to he mall to get Amber a new phone which took way too long, of course, and I ended up helping her with homework until like 10:00 pm. Then I had to make lunches and do dishes. I just ran out of time/energy and skipped the weights/stretching.

Wednesday I went to the gym and did 60 minutes on the Arc Trainer – I’m not a big fan of that machine.

Thursday I ran 2.5 miles on the treadmill in the afternoon. In the evening,  I walked probably about a mile.

Friday was a rest day, but I still took the dog for a mile walk.

Saturday, David and I ran the Montour Trail 5K. You can see the route below, even though I forgot to turn on my watch right when I started. My chip time was 28:59, which is a personal record. Of course, the first mile was all downhill and the last two were perfectly flat – it still counts.

Montour

Sunday was a rest day but I did take the dog on a mile walk.

Monday I ran out of time. I kinda switched Monday and Tuesday and did (almost) 30 minutes of SS with dumbbells and some crunches. I’m going to try to do the 4 miles after work today.

Readers’ Workouts is hosted by Joy’s Book Blog. Thanks, Joy, for keeping me accountable.

  • You’re doing awesome! I love hearing about your 5K’s and how you’re doing with your training schedule!
I love my treadmill because most of the year it’s too hot and humid to go outside for any type of exercise. I love the cooler months when I can walk and bike the trails near our house. That’s why I bought a recumbent bike, I can’t go so many months with out “riding” a bike. Plus I read or listen to an audio book while I’m on it. I’ve never used an arc trainer, but I did buy an elliptical. That thing is tough. It’s the only thing in my exercise room that I don’t like. It wears me out fast!

  • I was so excited when my physical therapist and doctor said I could do wall sits because I had recently found a wall sit challenge and thought it would be perfect for me. Not too much effort. A great way to ease back into things. I love things like this, that plan out what to do and invite you to build up slowly. And congrats on running the 5K! So awesome!
