I’m participating in WordPress.com’s Writing201: Poetry that finishes up this week.

Day 5 is upon us: clear your foggy mind, embrace absence, and paint with words.” This was last Friday’s assignment. The theme was fog, but the style was elegy and the device was metaphor. I kept trying to write an elegy and just had to eventually give up, so we’ve got fog and that’s about it.  And I’m not real thrilled with it.

fog

the fog by the river
obscures the world
around us
as we drive on
across the bridge
off the edge of the map
into the land of dragons and fairies
where the mist hides possibilities
where cars break down
and best intentions fail
where dreams live and breath
beside the nightmares

until the sun burns off the magic
