When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

We went to see Avengers: Age of Ultron yesterday in 2D. Superhero movies tend to be ones that all of us enjoy and this is the current must-see. I have to say I enjoyed it. I actually haven’t seen the first Avengers or (gasp) any of the Iron Mans, but I do love Thor.

The movie was what I expected – lots of actions, cool powers and gadgets, good guys win. There were some funny bits and Amber glared at me occasionally for laughing out loud. She also filled me in on a couple of bits I missed from not seeing the previous movies, but nothing that really would have left me lost had she not told me.  There was a bit of philosophizing about the nature of humans and war, and attempts at making our superheroes real people too, with strengths and weakness and people they care about.

There was one fight scene that I thought was a bit too long – between Iron Man and the Hulk no less. I did like how just as I was thinking Stark and Banner were going to do the same thing again, in comes Thor and, at least in my mind, helps the new creation become The Vision.

Mostly, it’s big fight scenes and saving the earth from a monster that Stark and Banner themselves created. And that’s enjoyable enough for me.

And when will I learn not to wear v-necks to the movies – I always end up with popcorn down my shirt. Am I the only one with that issue?
