I listened to just under 30 audiobooks last year, which was a little down from the year before. I like audiobooks a lot, so it’s really tough to pick my favorite. A lot are good books, period, regardless of if you read them in print or listen to them on audio, presuming the narrator is at all decent. Others are probably better in one format or the other.

One of my favorite series is Louise Penny’s Chief Inspector Gamache mysteries, and I always listen to them on audio (except #1). The series takes place in Canada, but with all the French names and phrases, it flows so much better on audio for me than it would in print. The same is true of  Keigo Higashino‘s Detective Galileo series, except the names and places are Japanese. Honestly though, both of these series would be just as good in print, I just enjoy the sound of someone else reading them so fluently.

One book that I listened to that I don’t think I would have enjoyed nearly as much in print was Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) in Song by Sara Bareilles. she reads the collection of essays and sing pieces of a few of her songs along the way, and you just can’t duplicate that in print.
