My Favorite . . . High School Experience

My Favorite.. is a weekly meme hosted by Maureen’s Books. In this meme we share every week something we love with each other. Because let’s face it.. The world can be a dark place and it’s time to share something positive. For more info: My Favorite Meme.

I know everyone will be surprised that I was a nerd in high school, before it was even a tiny bit cool, before the Big Bang Theory and the board game renaissance. I was also a band geek, but being in band was definitely my favorite high school experience. Most of my friends were there.  In marching season, we were a “competition band” and probably a little stuck up, but we worked hard and sounded good, at least that’s how I remember it. We performed at football games, obviously, even though I’m not sure that any of us actually cared about the games, and went to local shows. We also went to San Antonio and Disney, and both trips were a lot of fun. But the band room was also a place to hang out and play euchre or just take a break from the rest of school. I actually preferred concert band to marching band – it had better music, but most of my memories are from marching.

I was having trouble finding photos of the band when I was in it this morning. I think this one’s from my senior year, but I’m not in it.

And this is from when David and I played in the alumni band last fall. The alumni are in front and the high school band is behind them. David, Amber and I were all on the field.

  1. My oldest granddaughter was in band starting in Jr. High. She’s now in the band at college. My favorite memory is being in the glee club.

I intend to play along with this meme every week but I keep getting sidetracked. I’ve not been posting much and am also 4 reviews behind.

    • think that’s awesome that she’s playing in college too. I’m not sure if Amber will be in a band in college or not. She is attending a “music for arts and sciences students” presentation when we go up next month.

I missed Tuesday Intros this week and I’m behind on reading. Life has just been so busy lately.
