Scampy Doodle is a happy go lucky black dog who has a strong nose for adventure.

It's Christmas Eve and Scampy Doodle is fast asleep when he is woken by a strange noise coming from the chimney.

Discover what happens when he goes to investigate and gets the greatest surprise of his life!

Scampy Doodle is a happy dog who has helped his best friend Jemima get ready for Christmas. They decorated and set out treats for Santa and his reindeer and they went to bed, Jemima to her room and Scampy Doodle to his bed in the kitchen. Then, Scampy Doodle gets woken up by a strange sound.

This is a fun little Christmas story. It’s about helping and giving and the magic of Christmas. I do wish they had left hot chocolate for Santa instead of a whiskey, but that’s just me. I liked when Scampy Doodle decided to be brave and pushed the door to the living room open to peer around and see there the noise came from. It reminded me of my dog, Scrappy, who is also bigger than a snowball and smaller than a snowman.

The illustrations were bright and simple and cute but there were more words than pictures. The print was odd for me. It was bold, fun print font where some letters are above the line and some extend below, like the black font on the cover. I found it distracting, but that’s probably just me. I wish they had taken up less room with the type and made the pictures bigger and more detailed. That’s a minor quibble though

It would be a good book to read aloud with kids. The message is good and the gifts Scampy Doodle gets in his stocking are perfect. Scrappy would approve.
