Reading…

The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware (This is my pool book – a paperback that I’m not going to throw a fit if it gets wet.)
Bone Canyon (Eve Ronin #2) by Lee Goldberg (for review from NetGalley)

Listening To…

The Fifth Season (The Broken Earth #1) by N.K. Jemisin

Books reviewed last week…

Westside by W.M. Akers
A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine

Watching…

We went to the drive-in on Saturday to watch Jurassic Park followed by Jaws. Halfway through the first movie, the projector broke and they had to quit the show. We could go watch the second show on one of the other screens, but there wasn’t one I wanted to see, so we went home and watched them both on tv for free. Jurassic Park is still good even after 27 years; Jaws was less impressive. We did get two free passes for the drive-in though, so we’ll definitely be going back again soon.

In the kitchen this week…

Southwestern Caesar salad with black bean bites
Fettuccine and vegetables parmesan
Hummus and veggie sandwich
Kale-topped sweet potatoes

New to me stuff…

I tried a plant-based kielbasa for our Fourth of July cookout. Yeah, it was not very good.

Today’s to do list…

Hopefully, get my monthly newsletter pulled together at work. I’d like to get it in the mail Wednesday.
Depending on the weather this evening, either relax in the pool or get some trimming done outside. And water all the plants.

Looking forward to…

Mom and I are supposed to go shopping on Saturday, but right now the forecast is calling for thunderstorms, so we’ll probably put it off.

The Pittsburgh PlayTime play on Thursday is Milo de Venus by Brian Pope. It’s free to watch on zoom and I’ve been enjoying the series since theaters closed back in March/April. “What do you do when your Tinder pen pal and the nude model in your art class are the same person? That’s just one of the hilarious dilemmas a young woman faces in Milo de Venus, a new comedy by Pittsburgh-based playwright Brian Pope. Twenty-first century dating, artistic validation, and numerous ways to strike a pose are also reckoned with in this smart and very funny new play that’s brimming with brazen observations and scrambled pop culture references.” If you’re interested, you can find more information at https://ppt.org/ppt_home/pages/19870-playtime.

A quote…

“Home is what you take with you, not what you leave behind.”
― N.K. Jemisin, The Fifth Season

From the camera…

We finally made a set of cornhole boards. David did all the cutting and putting together and Amber and I painted them. We still need to put on a clear coat.

  • It’s nice to have a pool book. I often used to take books into the bathtub with me when I was a child…until I dropped a book into the tub, and it turned out to be a library book.

It sounds like to me that you are adapting well to our new world. Now you’ve got your own cornhole set…that will definitely be useful and fun. And the drive-in…wonderful to go to the drive-in right now. The best combination of going out and staying in. I’m sure the drive-in will get better as time goes on.

Hope you enjoy both books. Be safe.

    • We’re lucky. The drive-in’s only about 5 minutes from our house. It’s open every summer, and it’s never fancy. I think they had the projector fixed for the next night’s shows.
