Sunday Salon – 2/10

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. Week’s Highlight: We had a pretty quiet week, actually. Saturday was Solo and Ensemble; most of the kids I accompanied got 1s, so that's good. I personally, was having an off day, but sometimes that's life. Reading: I started listening to Middlemarch the other day. If you've read it, did you enjoy it? The audio is over 35 hours long, so I hope it's good. I've never read anything by George Eliot before. Last week’s posts: Left-Handed Death by Richard HullSweet Danger by Margery Allingham Playing: David beat me at both Scrabble and Terraforming Mars this weekend. Happily, I won Azul. It's one I really like, but David's not much of a fan. Maybe it's because I almost always win. Looking forward to: Valentine's Day is Friday. David and I are going to a Murder Mystery Dinner. Hopefully, it will be fun and the food good. We also got tickets for The Chieftains in Pittsburgh...

Sunday Salon – 2/2

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. We took Amber back to college today, so we ended up missing most of the Super Bowl, including the halftime show. I don't really care about the game, but usually watch it anyway. Week’s Highlight: I don't think we really did anything interesting this week. David and Amber went to a hockey game, but I stayed home. The poor dog had an ear infection but is feeling better now. Reading: I'm currently in the middle of two vintage mysteries: Left-Handed Death by Richard Hull and Sweet Danger by Margery Allingham. I like Allingham's Campion; he amuses me. This week’s posts: Becoming by Michelle ObamaOrlando by Virginia Woolf Playing: We played Vindication Saturday night. It's a good game and I really like the base game contains so many modules. It gives it a lot of replayability. "Thrown overboard for a life of wretchedness, you wash ashore a hostile island ruins — completely alone with...

Sunday Salon – 1/26

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. Week’s Highlight: Amber and I went to the Carnegie Natural History/Art Museum on Monday. We had a nice day. On the way up we stopped and had lunch with David and saw their new offices (which I didn't get any photos of.) Reading: I finished Orlando for my Classics Club Spin. Hopefully, I'll have my thoughts up later today. Readathin starts February 1st. This is the first time I'll be participating, but the goal is to Thin Your TBR. There are book prompts and a photo challenge. This week’s posts: The Black Cat Murders by Karen Baugh MenuhinLost Hills by Lee Goldberg Playing: We played Extraordinary Adventures: Pirates! for the first time the other night. It will probably end up being called Pirate Race. You're all trying to get to the Spanish Fleet in Trinidad, but also want to stop and pick up treasure and rescue or kidnap pirates along the way. It...

Sunday Salon- 1/19

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. Week’s Highlight: Our week was actually pretty quiet. It's not really a highlight, but a superload got stuck in front of my office for two hours on Monday. I had to walk somewhere for lunch and the only walkable place when it's cold out is Dollar General. Ours does not have good food choices. Reading: I'm about halfway through Orlando. I might read some of it later this evening. This week's posts: The Big Kahuna by Janet Evanovich and Peter EvanovichPolice at the Funeral by Margery AllinghamWhy We Can’t Sleep by Ada Calhoun Watching: We watch The Irishman on Netflix last night. It was really good. I think Amber even liked although she had never heard of Hoffa before. Turns out neither she nor David has seen The Godfather, so we may have to watch that before she goes back to school. Looking forward to: I have tomorrow off work, so I think Amber...

Sunday Salon – 1/12

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. Week’s Highlight: Amber's birthday was Saturday and we went to the funkiest little museum in Pittsburgh. The Bayernhof Museum was the home of Charles B. Brown, III, who knew he wanted the house to become a museum when he died and set up the foundation that owns and runs the museum in his will. The 19,000 square foot house, completed in 1982, is unique in and of itself, with secret passages, a cave, and unusual rooms, but it also contains a world-class collection of automatic antique music machines. Reading: Bout of Books finishes today. I'll probably post a short wrap-up tomorrow, but I did finish three audiobooks, mostly because I was the only one in my office all week. I need to set aside some time to read Orlando before the end of the month for the Classics Club Spin. I've been reading several of the Her Royal Spyness...

Sunday Salon – 1/5

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. Week’s Highlight: I hope everyone had a Happy New Years! We stayed home and played board games with friends. We went to an escape room on Thursday with Amber and one of her friends. This is the second time we've done one of EscapeWorks rooms. This one was a follow-up to the last room; the culprit in the last one was the murder victim this time around. It was a murder mystery type room. We knew who the suspects were but the puzzles helped figure out who they all were, where they came from, what weapons they had and eventually who killed Bugsy. A lot of fun! Reading: I finished my 2019 reading with a few light mysteries. The Twelve Clues of Christmas by Rhys BowenMerry Murder by C. S. McDonaldHeirs and Graces by Rhys Bowen My first book of 2020 was a fun cozy mystery set in Cleveland. Sheila at...
