one-deadly2One Deadly Sin by Annie Solomon

From the cover:

Coming home is murder…

Revenge. Edie Swann has hungered for it since she fled her hometown as a little girl. Now she’s returned, ready for payback. Armed with a list of names, she leaves each one a chilling sign that they have blood on their hands. Her father’s blood. What happens next turns her own blood cold: one by one, the men she’s targeted start dying.

Sheriff Holt Drennen knows Edie is hiding something. She has a haunted look in her eyes and a defiant spirit, yet he can’t believe she’s a murderer. As the body count rises and all evidence points to Edie, Holt is torn between the town he’s sworn to protect and the woman he’s come to desire. But nothing is what it seems. Long buried secrets begin to surface, and a killer won’t be satisfied until the sins of the past are paid in full–this time with Edie’s blood.

My thoughts:

I love romantic suspense novels in general, and this was a great one. The mystery is well-done, with lots of twist and turns. The town of Rosebud has more than it’s fair share of secrets, and Edie Swann’s coming drags them back to light. I’m not sure that her original plan was that great, but events soon spiral out of her control anyway.

Edie  is a strong, independent woman, a bartender who can be a little rough around the edges, but loves Brahms. It took me a while to warm up to her, partly because she seems so stuck in a past that happended when she was just a kid, but after a while, I was solidly in her corner. Maybe it’s a reminder of how much our childhoods affect the rest of our lives. Of course, she eventually needs help and the sheriff is there for her. Sherrif Holt Drennen is sexy and strong, but has a soft side and a young daughter who adores him. He also believes in Edie’s innocence, despite the facts. It’s the perfect combination for a fiery romance.

I don’t want to spoil the ending, but  I didn’t know who the killer was before he/she was exposed. Of course, I rarely do (unless I peek). I was also happy with how Solomon left Edie’s story at the end.
