There are certain types of books that I more or less assume all readers read. (Novels, for example.)
But then there are books that only YOU read. Instructional manuals for fly-fishing. How-to books for spinning yarn. How to cook the perfect souffle. Rebuilding car engines in three easy steps. Dog training for dummies. Rewiring your house without electrocuting yourself. Tips on how to build a NASCAR course in your backyard. Stuff like that.
What niche books do YOU read?
I can’t think of any niche books that I read off-hand, which is now striking me as kind of sad. Do I not have any unusual interests? I’ve read a lot of animal books with my daughter, but that’s her interest, not mine. My husband has a few pirate books around the house, but I’ve only glanced at them.
Looking at the list of books I’ve read recently, I do have several that are food-related, whether they be memoirs or mysteries, like Murder Uncorked by Michele Scott, One Bad Apple by Sheila Connolly, and I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghettiby Guilia Melucci, but I think that’s just coincidence. Of course, I do enjoy looking through cookbooks and cooking magazines. Maybe food is a hidden interest, one I wasn’t even really aware of.

I’m not a specific niche book reader but I will pick up books about history, dogs or ones with photographs.
I didn’t think I was a “niche” reader, either, at first. But after thinking it over for a while, I came up with several kinds of specialized books I’m interested in.
I love anything that deals with food 🙂 Here are mine: (1) and (2)
I guess I was lucky, I thought about my niche books right away! I’d have had more trouble if I stuck with fiction though. I read a lot of mainstream fiction, I’m not really into anything that obscure.
I like travelogues a lot. I read lots of home remedy books too!

I enjoy books about food, not just those that contain recipes. I think too, that what one person considers niche another thinks of as the norm.
I can think of subjects I am especially interested in which could be construed as niches, but then there are so many of them that I am not sure I truly fit in a niche at all. Hmm. Anyhow, I can name my husband’s niches right off the top of my head. Isn’t that funny?
