egyptologyAmber got a new book this week, Egyptology, and happened to notice that the picture on the book matched a picture on the box of a game we have on our shelves, Horus. So, I decided to spotlight that game today, although we’ve only played a couple of times. It’s rated ages 10 and up, but I may give it a try with Amber, connecting it to her new book.

  • Seize your destiny and reign supreme over the land of Egypt! Discover your inner Pharaoh with Horus, as players journey to ancient Egypt’s sacred Nile valley in a struggle to control the land of Kemet. Guide the course of the sacred river, cultivate the land surrounding it, build a holy necropolis to thwart your foes, and earn the blessings of the Horus temple as you seek to unite the valley into one great kingdom!

    My thoughts:

This is another tile-laying game, but with an Egyptian theme. Basically, you place tiles representing river, desert, swamp, hills and cultivated land as regions to be controlled. The larger the region you control the more points. There are a couple of ways to place kingdom markers, your cards and taking a ride down the river.

It’s an attractive enough game, but with four players it seemed too quick, like you were just getting your strategy rolling and the game was over. It’s definitely better with two players, but there are so many other options out there that we just don’t play it. If you love the Egyptian theme, though, it may be right up your alley. Actually, I might convince David to give it another shot sometime this weekend.

Have you played any good games lately?
