This morning I ran in the Pirates Charities Home Run 5K. It was a blast, as usual. It’s a nice, fairly flat course, half of which runs along the river, that ends in PNC Park. The place was packed, there were 3623 finishers, it is organized very well with staggered start times. It does tend bottleneck at the end, with runners entering the park to get to the finish line and those leaving not in much of a hurry. After the race, there is so much food – hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, some other kind of meat sandwich – ham or sausage, I think, bananas, cookies, chips, donuts, and water of course. I’d tell you about before the race, but we got there right on now due to some unanticipated construction on the parkway,

Bang for your buck, this has to be one of the best 5Ks. It’s an awesome morning, runner get a free ticket to one of the next four home games and a discount on additional ones, a tech t-shirt (even though they ran out and have to mail me mine), and a medal. This is the third year I’ve done it and will probably go next year too.

My time was 29:49, which is really good for me. Anything under 30 minutes I consider great.
