Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl
Amber, who was 8 at the time, and I read this story back in August of 2008 and adored it. It was a joy to read. Before you go out and see the movie, please take the time to read this classic children’s book. To be honest, I’m a little leery of the movie, the ads remind me little of the actual story.
This is a “garden tale” of farmer versus vermin, or vice versa. The farmers in this case are a vaguely criminal team of three stooges. Whatever their prowess as poultry farmers, within these pages their sole objective is the extermination of our hero–the noble, the clever, the Fantastic Mr. Fox. In the end, Mr. Fox not only survives, but also helps the whole community of burrowing creatures live happily ever after.
I really liked the book when I was a kid. The movie trailers look less than great to me, but I’ve heard it’s got good reviews. Not sure yet if I want to see it or not.
Roald Dahl’s books are fantastic, but I don’t think we ever read that one.
Have you read any of Dahl’s adult works?
Looks like a fun one to add to my daughter’s library for when she’s a little older – I’ve liked others of Roald Dahl.
I think this is one Dahl book we haven’t read.
This guy writes some fantastic books!!!
Great review!
I’ve never read this book. I think I was probably the only child EVER who hated Roald Dahl books. And I’ve tried re-reading them as an adult and it didn’t get better. Ergh.
That said, I plan to see the film. It looks fun. Maybe…it will change my mind about Mr. Dahl? I think I must be missing something…
I’ve not read this one but you made it sound fun! 😀
