This week is Vacation Bible School at our church. Which means after work every day we head over there. It runs 6-8:30, but both David and I volunteer, he coordinates the wood craft project and I help with registration and other randomness, we’re usually there by at least 5:30 and are lucky if we’re home by 9. It makes it a long week, but definitely worth doing.
My giveaway is still open for a few days. The random winner gets to pick a book of his or her choice, up to $20 from The Book Depository. It’s open internationally, so enter here.
Anyway, I got one book in the mail this week, The Map of Time by Félix J. Palma, thanks to the publisher. David saw it and asked why I got it. Time travel is not usually my favorite, but how could I pass this one up? “Set in Victorian London with characters real and imagined, The Map of Time is a page-turner that boasts a triple play of intertwined plots in which a skeptical H.G. Wells is called upon to investigate purported incidents of time travel and to save lives and literary classics, including Dracula and The Time Machine, from being wiped from existence.” Sounds amazing, right?
I posted a few reviews last week. Steam & Sorcery by Cindy Spencer Pape was a nice summer read, a sweet romance with touches of magick and steampunk. I adored The Honey Month by Amal El-Mohtar. It’s a unique book, one you’ll probably either love or just not get. A Caribbean Mystery is not my favorite Agatha Christie, but I did like seeing Miss Marple center stage.
I talked about “Snow White” on Thursday. Do you realize how old she was?
I always have to post a couple of non-bookish posts. If you get a chance, read about the crow I saw that made me look twice or my weekly flash fiction piece “My Dark Angel.” It’s actually one of the better ones I’ve written lately, I think.
I’m currently reading A New Prospect by Wayne Zurl and am still listening to Holmes on the Range by Steve Hockensmith.
Mailbox Monday is taking a blog tour. This month’s host is Gwendolyn of A Sea of Books. It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
I hope you enjoy The Map of Time. Initially I had assumed that it was not my sort of book, but I ended up loving it.
Have a great week ahead!
I have not heard of The Map of Time! I really want to read this now 🙂
I’ve seen a lot of buzz about The Map of Time. Hope you enjoy it!
Now I got creeped out by Snow White again o_O gross
happy reading!
Enjoy your week with VBS! It’s been a while since I’ve helped with that – in fact, my church doesn’t even have it anymore in the same form. It was fun though.
Hope you like A MAP OF TIME. I’ve got it as well and hope to get to it soon. Have a good week, Carol!
We get like 200 kids. It’s probably one of the highlights of the year for our church.
I did the VBS thing the second week of June, right after I had my bike accident… not a great week to be busy with kids and in a lot of pain 🙂
The Map Of Time looks awesome – enjoy!
That had to be miserable. I help with registration, paperwork, that kind of stuff, which mean I don’t actually have to deal with the kids much.
Heard a lot of good comments about The Map of Time, enjoy!

I think my husband and son would enjoy The Map of Time and I hope you do too.
I am not sure if Map of Time is a book I would like. I’m still trying to decide. I’ll watch for your thoughts on it.
I absolutely love The Map of Time’s website! It’s just so incredibly cool! So hopefully the book lives up to the hype.
Hope you have a fabulous reading week and if you get a second stop my to see what I’ve been reading at There’s A Book! 🙂
I have read just two books only on time travel and enjoyed them (surprisingly for me) as I do not read this kind of books often. Sometimes its worthwhile to step out of your comfort zone.
Map of Time was very good. I read a lot of time travel books and this is not your typical travel to another time and have an adventure story. Most of the book takes place in Victorian London. Anyway, hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I used to love VBS! Have a fun week 🙂
Not sure The Map of Time is my cup of tea, but I must admit I’m intrigued. My daughter went to VBS in June and loved it! She’ll be a helper next year, but they do it in the morning for 1 week, so I haven’t been able to volunteer because of work.
I’m glad they moved ours to the evening, more people can be involved.
