The Classics Club has brought back its monthly meme. Here’s the question for May:
What is your favorite classic book? Why?
I love a lot of classics, but my absolute favorite is probably The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, père. It’s been 10 years since I’ve read it, so I don’t remember all the details, but I do remember it was awesome. It’s got a bit of everything, adventure, danger, revenge, love, redemption. It’s got secret identities and so much treasure. It’s also compulsively readable. It’s a chunkster – and do read the unabridged version – but the writing, the characters, the plot, just make you want to keep reading.
The Three Musketeers is on my to-read list for this year.
Yep…that’s a great on alright. I was like you, read it years ago and remembered that I loved it, but not many details. I reread it last year and it was better than I remembered. You’re due for a reread.
You’re probably right, it definitely deserves a re-read.
I’ve only read The Three Musketeers by Dumas, pere. I found it to be an incredibly quick read despite its length and imagine The Count of Monte Cristo is the same.
I’m really hoping to read The Three Musketeers this year.
I read ‘The three Musketeers’ and possibly a couple of other Dumas novels while in high school. I was a better reader in high school than i am now. :-/
Are Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories considered classics? They are to me, and I re-read them every few years.
I definitely consider them classics. And love them.
One day I will have time for big, fat books again!
I read The Count when Amber was 8, but I’m not sure how I managed it.
