Title: The Wolverine Director: James Mangold Writers: Mark Bomback and Scott Frank   In theaters: July 26, 2013 by 20th Century Fox Genre: Action, Fantasy Rating: PG-13 Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Purchase: Amazon DVD | Amazon Instant Video In modern day Japan, Wolverine is out of his depth in an unknown world as he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before. Amber didn't have school three days this week because of the cold and on Tuesday night we decided to watch a movie. We all like the X-Men movies and none of us had seen The Wolverine yet, even though David was sure he had. They all do get a little confusing, I admit, between the X-Men movies and the two Wolverine ones. At the...

When his job along with that of his co-worker are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined. We saw The Secret Life of Walter Mitty in the theater yesterday. It wasn't one that I had on my must-watch list, but we wanted to see a movie and it seemed like something we would all enjoy. I've never read Thurber's story, but it doesn't seem like it really has much to do with the movie anyway, aside from featuring a day-dreamer. I'm not a...

I is for Iguanodon

I is for Iguanodon

I'm a little sad the I isn't for Ice Cream today, but none of my family wanted to go out for ice cream last night. Instead, I is for Iguanodon. When my daughter was little she had a major dinosaur obsession. We had books upon books, and figures and stuffed animals. And of course there must a million dinosaur species, including the flying and swimming ones. One I remember though, is the Iguanodon, mostly because of its odd thumb. It has five fingers on its front "hand," erect and spiked thumb used for defence or perhaps foraging, three middle fingers and a grasping fifth finger. Even though no Iguanodons were featured in Jurassic Park, I'm taking today's post to talk about seeing it in the theater this past weekend. (Tomorrow's J is being held for a fairytale character/creature.) In the early 90s I read Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, I loved it, and went on to read The Lost World. And 20 years ago, like most...
