Spring into Horror Read-a-Thon Wrap-up

I didn't get in as much reading as I had hoped this weekend, but that's okay. I did finish The Black Country by Alex Grecian, which I counted as my creepy book. Yeah, I know it's stretching the rules a little, but I don't think Michelle minds too much. I started listening to Ten Lord A-Leaping by C. C. Benison and reading India Black and the Gentleman Thief by Carol K. Carr. I'm enjoying both but am not close to finishing either. I just didn't set enough time aside to just read. Thanks for hosting, Michelle. Maybe I'll do better in the summer.  ...

Spring into Horror Read-a-Thon

I'm joining in on the Spring into Horror Read-a-thon, hosted by Michelle at Seasons of Reading. Now horror is not my usual cup of tea, but Michelle says you only have to read one scary book, and that doesn't have to be horror, it can be, but it could also be mystery, paranormal, thriller, etc. I'm using a book I'm currently listening to as my spooky one. The Black Country by Alex Grecian - "The British Midlands. It's called the "Black Country" for a reason. Bad things happen there. When members of a prominent family disappear from a coal-mining village - and a human eyeball is discovered in a bird's nest - the local constable sends for help from Scotland Yard's new Murder Squad. Fresh off the grisly 1889 murders of The Yard, Inspector Walter Day and Sergeant Nevil Hammersmith respond, but they have no idea what they're about to get into. The villagers have intense, intertwined histories. Everybody bears a...

R is for Read-a-thon

R is for Read-a-thon

I know, we already did R and I will have an X post up sometime today, I promise. I was just on a roll with post titles and hated to mess it up. But today is the Read-a-thon! I know I'm a little late getting up this morning, but here's my introduction anyway. What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Eastern Ohio Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? None in particular. I'm looking forward to reading them all. Which snack are you most looking forward to? An ice cream cone or coffee cake Tell us a little something about yourself! I love mysteries. I have a daughter and husband who don't mind me devoting a day to reading, If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? I don't really tink I'll do anything different. As always I wish...

A Winter’s Respite Read-a-Thon

I'll be joining in A Winter's Respite Read-a-Thon, hosted by Michelle at Seasons of Reading. It's a relaxed read-a-thon that runs from today through Jan. 27, a week of "week of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away those ever looming TBR piles/shelves/libraries." It's as good as excuse as any to spend my evenings reading/listening to books. The first books on my list are the ones I'm currently in the middle of: False Scent by Ngaio Marsh, The Adventurer's Guide to Living a Happy Life by Matt Mosteller, and Pray for Silence by Linda Castillo. I'll keep a list here of any books I complete/read a portion of. I'm hoping to at least finish those three. Book(s) I'm currently reading/listening to:  Saving Grace by Pamela Fagan Hutchins / The Big Four by Agatha Christie Approximate total number of pages read: 476 Approximate total amount of time listened: 14 hours 10 minutes Books I've finished: The Adventurer's Guide to Living a Happy Life by Matt Mosteller False...

24-Hour Read-a-Thon

24-Hour Read-a-Thon

Today is the 24-hour Read-a-Thon. And I'm hoping to do lots and lots of reading, starting by finishing A Plain Death by Amanda Flower. Before I get absorbed in a story, though, I wanted to go ahead and answer Hour 1's questions. 1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I'm in Ohio. It's rainy today here, and much coller than yesterday - a perfect day to stay inside and read. 2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I don't really know. I don't have any that I have huge expectations for, and to be honest, I don't really have much of a plan. I'm just going to pull off the shelf (or Kindle) whichever book grabs my eye at the time. 3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? Brownies! And spaghetti for dinner. 4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I love to read and play boardgames. I have a wonderful husbad and daughter who may...
