I love the Bunburry mysteries. They're short little reads/listens that are perfect when I'm not sure what I want to commit to next. This time around, Alfie is enrolled at a writing course at Hallwood Hall - perhaps not the best place for him to go back to. The writers are an odd collection and there's clearly tension in the air, so when one of them leaves suddenly but with no way to get to town or the station, Alfie is suspicious.
Adding to my list of things to not do if I'm in a cozy mystery book: let someone take my phone away because it's a "distraction"
The mystery here is good. It's only 3 1/2 hours long, but we get several suspects and a couple of nice clues. This time, it's up to Alfie and Emma to solve the mystery and I kind of missed Liz and Marge - they're around but not really integral. I do wish...
I really enjoy these short mysteries. This time around, Dorothy and the former Sargent Wilson are getting married. I have to say I like what the Sarge's recent health scare and relationship with Dorothy have done for his character. Everyone in town is at the reception, but that same evening, someone tries to set the Choudhury house on fire. Thankfully little damage is done, but the police, and Bunburry Triangle, are anxious to find the culprit.
This is a fun, quick read. I love the characters, each of whom is just quirky enough without going over the edge into annoying. There are several suspects and it's good to see how many people care about the Choudhury family. I liked the yoga center and how it brings together people you wouldn't expect. I was happy Oscar had a part to play this time around too....
The Bunburry series is always fun. I always listen to the audios, Parker does a great job with the narration, and each is between 2 and 3 hours, which is a great length for when I can't quite decide what I want to listen to.
This time around Bunburry is holding its Quincentenary Celebration, but something feels off. Dorothy from the post office starts doing a little digging on her own and ends up in a bit of trouble. The local historical society is involved too.
It's a fun story, no one dies, and there's more love in the air than usual. I do enjoy these characters and their hijinks....
When burglaries start happening in Bunburry, everyone is concerned their house will be the next target. When Alfie's two favorite people become victims, Alfie and Emma, who's supposed to be on leave, have to get involved. In the meantime, a new arrival from London has formed a vigilante group that is threatening the local youth with baseball bats.
The mystery was good. Alfie jumps to conclusions a bit too quickly but is able to change his mind as they find new evidence. There are a couple of legitimate suspects and I liked how the clues worked together. Alfie and Emma make a good team, but they need to communicate better when it comes to their personal relationship.
I enjoyed this installment. It's a fun, light series. I enjoy spending time with the quirky residents of Bunburry. I do wish I could have some of the fudge, though....
Like all the Bunburry books, Lost and Found is light and cozy. This time around, Alfie meets his half-sister and his niece. Both are warm, charming women, but the niece has a problem Alfie is determined to help her solve. I should have figured out the answer to the main mystery, it's a short novella and there are only so many characters. I can't say I loved the mystery itself, but I read these more to spend time with the characters than for the plot. Alfie and his friends (and now family) are a delightful, colorful bunch....
Poison Ivy is the 12th in the Bunburry mysteries and I don't think it would be as good as a standalone - half of the fun is knowing the characters and how their relationships work. I was quite happy that Oscar is in town for most of this one, along with the rest of the usual cast.
Emma and Alfie are planning a surprise party for Marg and Liz. At the hotel, Alfie meets a beautiful interesting woman. It turns out she's an old acquaintance of Oscar's and he's sure she's a murderer.
This was another good entry in the series. The mystery had a twist or two. The characters are their delightful selves and I like how some of the newer ones have settled into recurring roles. It was a nice way to spend a few hours....
