A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Chuck Fischer

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Chuck Fisher The Blurb: This beautiful re-imagining of Charles Dickens's timeless fable, A Christmas Carol: A Pop-Up Book features artist Chuck Fischer's richly painted depictions of the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, brought to life in intricate pop-up scenes by paper engineer Bruce Foster. The entire text of A Christmas Carol is reproduced in five removable, illustrated, keepsake booklets. An introductory booklet provides a biography of Dickens and an illustrated feature on the enduring appeal of this beloved story. The perfect gift, A Christmas Carol, now in pop-up form, will brighten the holidays for young and old. My Thoughts: This is simply gorgeous! Pop-up books have evolved so much from the ones I can remember from when I was a child. It's magical, seeing the story I know and love brought to life in this way. I also love that the...

The Word Made Flesh by Eva Talmadge & Justin Taylor

The Word Made Flesh: Literary Tattoos from Bookworms Worldwide by Eva Talmadge and Justin Taylor It's a treasure box full of words, authors, quotes that people love enough to include permanently in their life. The day I received it in the mail I started looking through it, in awe over the gorgeous tattoos and the variety of genres, authors, and topics. It's a beautifully done book, all the photos are in rich vibrant colors and it's printed on heavy paper. I like that not only does it have the picture of the tattoo, it also tells who the photos is of and where the reference is from. Often, the page includes a caption telling what made the individual choose that tattoo, what it means to them. Not only, has this book made me want to get another tattoo (but what should it be?), it's also  a trove of authors and books that I feel inspired to read. After all, they've made a huge...

Bear Portraits by Jill Greenberg

Bear Portraits by Jill Greenberg The portraits in this book are gorgeous. Full-grown brown bears, grizzlies, black bears, Polar bears, and bear cubs are photographed in a studio against a portrait backdrop. The poses are cute, funny, frightening, thoughtful and the bears at times seem almost human. For me, the bears lose some of their awesomeness by being taken out of nature, but that's just me. They're a little too clean here, too perfect. The photos are beautiful, though, letting us see these amazing, fascinating creatures face to face. I can see animal lovers adoring this book. "Only the gentle are ever really strong." -James Dean (as quoted in Bear Portraits) My copy was provided by the publisher for review, and the above is my honest opinion. I am an Amazon Associate....

One Hundred Butterflies by Harold Feinstein

One Hundred Butterflies by Harold Feinstein "The earth laughs with flowers, but it dances with butterflies." - Harold Feinstein (from the front flap) I don't usually post such large images of book covers, but I wanted to give you an idea of how absolutely dazzling the photos in this books are. Feinstein has captured the beauty and brilliance of these ornate insects and reproduced it in a oversized format, allowing us to appreciate the details. The photos of butterflies from around the world are mesmerizing, the vivid colors shown off to perfection by the black background. The intense blues of the African Blue Salamis and the luminous oranges of the Monarch took my breath away. May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun And find your should to light on, To bring you luck, happiness and riches Today, tomorrow and beyond. Irish Blessing, - pg. 96 Butterfly lovers would treasure this book, as would art lovers. After all, butterfly wings are as magnificent as any painting or stained-glass...

Angels by Chuck Fischer

Angels: A Pop-Up Book by Chuck Fischer Whether you consider angels to be divine messengers, spiritual guides, or the stuff of legend, you will find Angels breathtaking. It may be a pop-up book, but it is definitely not for children. The pop-ups are intricate and simply gorgeous. Angels brings to life the some of the most captivating stories of these celestial beings, from the angels of the zodiac to Biblical angels to angels in the arts and popular culture. The text, which really is secondary to the illustrations provides some fascinating information about angels, historical, religious and in the arts. Many believe that the angels who have inspired us for centuries date to Mesopotamian and Egyptian cultures, which told of winged celestials sent from above to deliver messages and fulfill heavenly commands. I almost wish that the information and pop-ups were on separate pages. It was hard for me to concentrate on the writing beside the stunning art. This would be a beautiful gift for...
