Now that summer is here (in the northern hemisphere, anyway), what is the most “Summery” book you can think of? The one that captures the essence of summer for you?
(I’m not asking for you to list your ideal “beach reading,” you understand, but the book that you can read at any time of year but that evokes “summer.”)
I was trying to think of a book that evoked summer for me and having no luck, but then I thought of Jimmy Buffett. His songs, attitude, everything screams summer to me, as do his book titles. Maybe I’ll pull a couple of his out of the pile downstairs and read them this summer, finally. I know I have Tales from Margaritaville and Where Is Joe Merchant? somewhere.

Ah, yes, Jimmy Buffett definitely reminds me of summer, too. I’ve never read any of his books, but I love his music. A few years ago, when we were visiting Key West, the radio was playing “Margaritaville” as we drove into town and the sun was shining, and it was a really perfect summer moment. Good choice!
Hey, that’s what I was going to say!
How about Island of the Sequenced Love Nun
David- I thought of that one, too.
JLS- I haven’t read them yet, either. I think they got absorbed into my collection when I got married.
Never heard of him!
Heatwave reading
**sigh** not heard of him. 🙂
Ooh, I like this week’s question! I’m afraid I haven’t heard of Buffett either, though. I think I’d pick I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith myself. Even though I read it in winter, it’s a summer-y book.
Jimmy Buffett – yes, it’s always summer in Margaritaville 🙂
