I really don’t read many funny books, so coming up with three authors I truly consider funny was harder than I thought it would be.
- Christopher Moore
I’m pretty sure the first Christopher Moore book I read was the Island of the Sequined Love Nun, which I loved. Hilarious! I made my husband read it and he enjoyed it too. And I found out today that he was actually born and raised in Ohio. Nifty, huh? - Douglas Adams
He’s a must-read author as far as I’m concerned. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series is classic. It’s a shame that I’ve never listened to any of the radio series, might be a good idea for the next long car trip. I have to admit that I’m also a fan of his Dirk Gently series. - Brian M. Wiprud
I fell in love with his writing when I first read Pipsqueak. It’s a smart, funny, quirky mystery and I adored it. I’ve since read all of his books that I could get my hands on. And he’s got a new one coming out this summer – Ringer. It’s already on my wishlist.
So, who makes your “Funny Authors” list?
David Sedaris for sure!
I still haven’t read/listened to anything by him. I really need to.
Jen Lancaster has cracked me up a time or two 🙂
A new name for me. I’ll have to check her out.
Authors that always crack me up are Terry Pratchett, Georgette Heyer and Lindsey Davis. They are great for a rough day! 🙂
I don’t know why I haven’t read anything by Pratchett yet. I really should.
I’ve been wanting to read Christopher Moore. His books look really good.
I’ve really enjoyed the ones I’ve read.
Christopher Moore and David Sedaris always make me laugh!
Another vote for Sedaris, huh?
The only one that I can think of is Mark Twain. I just don’t read humor, but I probably should sometimes.
Lee
It’s been ages since I’ve read anything by Mark Twain, and I think I only read Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn then.
Douglas Adams is definatly good, but even better are Terry Pratchett and Jasper Fforde
Fforde is another one that’s been on my list, but I’ve just never gotten around to.
Interesting topic. I really havent read many funny books myself. The last funny one I read was Chelsea Handlers memoir, Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea.
I saw that one, but never got around to picking it up.
David Sedaris, as multiple people have mentioned already. Sometimes Bill Bryson.
I’ve only read one Moore book, but it was cracking me up! I think another one I would definitely add to my list is Patrick McManus! I was born and raised in Montana, and his short stories crack me up every single time . . . but that could be my upbringing!! Not sure who my third would be . . .
Love the first two, haven’t read the third. I had forgotten Moore was from Ohio. No wonder he’s so cool 🙂
I hated the first two authors.
Janet evanovich is hilarious
Jennifer Weiner is me absolute favorite author. Glad to get some suggestions on some other funny authors!
Douglas Adams is a good one…how about Bill Bryson or Edward Bison. Edward has just release a new book – Mr Bison’s Journal – which is really hilarious. It is available on Amazon
I love Janet Evanovich, Beth Ciotta, Jennifer Crusie and Amanda Quick
