I’m participating in WordPress.com’s Writing201: Poetry that runs this week and next. Each weekday, they are providing a post with a prompt, a form of poetry and a poetic device. Mind you, I’m not a poet, but I thought it would be fun to give it a try and maybe learn something in the process.

Today, let’s write a poem about water. And/or a haiku. And/or use a simile.” Here are my attempts:

Alone

Alone, frozen, like
an icicle hanging from
a neglected porch.

Fishing

The bass jumps, splashes
just a foot from my bobber
which floats lazily.
