My Favorite.. is a weekly meme hosted by Maureen’s Books. In this meme we share every week something we love with each other. Because let’s face it.. The world can be a dark place and it’s time to share something positive. For more info: My Favorite Meme.
I started writing this yesterday but never actually got around to posting it. I’ll post my usual Thursday post tomorrow.
I read a lot of series, mostly mysteries and some fantasy. It’s really hard to pick a favorite. I love Ngaio Marsh and Agatha Christie, of course, and I can’t wait for the finale of Robert Bennet Jackson’s Divine Cities trilogy coming out in May. My current favorite though is probably Louise Penny’s Gamache series.
First, Armand Gamache is a great character, intelligent, introspective, caring, a detective who actually manages to have well-functioning relationships. Second, most of the books have the village of Three Pines as one of the settings. It’s someplace I would love to live – if it wasn’t so cold. I want to sit in the cafe and visit the bookstore. I want to be friends with the artist and (maybe) the poet.
Another reason I love this series is that it’s one my mom reads to. We’re both readers, but we tend not to have the same taste in books. When the new installment comes out in August we both pick it up. My mom usually gets the print edition and I get the audio and talk about it as we read it. It’s nice. There are currently twelve in the series, but according to Penny’s twitter feed, the next one has been sent off to the editors.

Sounds like an interesting series. I think I will check it out, I love a good detective series.
That’s nice, print and audio, it does give perspective when u two talk
My favorite series, also – love the characters, the place, the mystery – learn something new with every story…
How fun!! I never heard about the Gamache series. It sounds like a great one and I love detective series. And how fun that you can talk about it with your mom. My mom is also a reader, but just like you and your mum we haven’t read many of the same novels.
I definitely have to check this series out someday!
Thanks for joining and signing up again! 😉
