Happy Tuesday! I’m linking up with That Artsy Reader Girl for Top Ten Tuesday & the topic this week is: “Character Traits I Love.”
- Common Sense – I don’t want my amateur detectives to head off into the dark woods without flashlights in high heels without telling anyone where they’re going.
- Witty – Someone who’s clever and funny and has good timing with their comments
- Intelligent – I read a lot of mysteries. The detective, amateur or professional, needs to be smart enough to see the connections and learn from their mistakes.
- Quirky – Has that peculiar trait or traits that makes them stand out
- Self Control – Knows they can punch your lights out but doesn’t have to. Or doesn’t sleep with the married man.
- Resourceful – Gets things done even if there are difficulties in the way
- Furry – I tend to like the pets in cozy mysteries, but I’d rather they not talk.
- Romantic – The people who wear rose-colored glasses, who thinks every young couple should fall in love, and takes long walks in the rain
- Integrity – Honest, has high moral principles
- Ruthless – Okay, this one is probably more for the villain or a side character, but there’s something to be said for someone who has a goal and will do whatever they can to accomplish it.
I have the same opinions of pets in cozy mysteries.
My TTT.
I have to admit dogs are my favorite, even if cats are show up in more of them.
I’m always surprised at the people who don’t have any common sense.
It always annoys me.
I’m so glad you mentioned furry as well. So did I!
They are so much a part of some cozy mysteries that they are truly characters.
I think I expect characters to be wittier and more intelligent than most people. After all, (hopefully) someone spent time thinking out everything the characters say. I would encourage authors to create characters who are wittier and smarter than us regular folks.
I agree. And honestly I don’t know how many of the characters I like in books I’d actually like in real life. Some, but not all for sure.
What a thought provoking topic.
Romantic aside (maybe) just about all of these could feature on my top 10.
I’m not sure if romantic was quite the word I was looking for, but it was as close as I could get.
Great lis! And I love the last one. The villain needs to be ruthless. Makes them scary.
A little ruthlessness can go a long way.
