The Thursday Murder Club is charming. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, and Ron meet weekly to hash out cold cases, happily figuring out who the killer was that the cops missed. Then the part owner/builder of The Coopers Chase Retirement Village is found bludgeoned to death, and the four are determined to try their hand at solving a current case. They just need an in with the cops – maybe that nice PC Donna de Freitas. It’s fun to watch the four finagle their way into the case. They manipulate, coerce, and call in as many favors as they can in the search for who dunnit.
The actual murder mystery itself was not as stellar as the cast. It was convoluted, with more than enough red herrings and false trails. I guess I adored the characters but wish the mystery had been a little tighter.

Richard Thomas Osman (born 28 November 1970) is an English television presenter, producer, novelist, and comedian. He is the creator and co-presenter of the BBC One television quiz show Pointless. He has presented the BBC Two quiz shows Two Tribes and Richard Osman’s House of Games and served as a team captain on the comedy panel shows Insert Name Here and The Fake News Show. He has made appearances on many British panel shows.
Osman worked at Hat Trick Productions alongside Ben Smith before becoming creative director of the television production company Endemol UK, producing shows including Prize Island for ITV and Deal or No Deal for Channel 4. He is the author of The Thursday Murder Club series.
I checked this one out, but then wasn’t in the mood to read it, so I took it back to the library unread. Maybe someday I’ll try it again.
Parts of it are a little more bittersweet than I typically enjoy.
I love this series , the characters are just adorable
I think I enjoyed the second one a bit more.
