But between classes, the extra-curricular cold case project Professor Bellows recruited her and academic nemesis Stewart to work on, and daily life as a semi-adult, Violet’s got a lot going on. Still, she’s never too busy for a good mystery, and life at Middlebridge is more mysterious than ever. Violet finds herself drawn into more shady circumstances, but this year it gets personal. Between her own mom’s Middlebridge past, classmate Stewart in trouble and even Professor Bellows himself turned-prime suspect, the stakes have never been higher. And with that extra pressure, Violet’s juggling skills are put to the test, as she solves the crimes and catches the guilty, but at what cost to her? No good deed goes unpunished, as they say. A lesson Violet is about to learn the hard way.
This is a fun audio. We have three separate mysteries, each with two episodes-one involving Violet’s mom, one involving Stuart, and one involving Professor Bellows. Violet is not the most organized person and juggling classes and the mysteries she keeps getting involved in is difficult. She’s also not the most considerate person – she only pays attention to her boyfriend when she needs something. I like that her relationship with Stuart is turning a little more friends and less a pure rivalry. The mysteries fit into the college setting. They’re not overly complicated since they’re each only about an hour long. The characters are well-developed, even the annoying ones have their good points, and the voice actors are great. I’m usually not a huge fan of full cast, but since this was designed to be an audio, never a print book, it works well. I’m looking forward to the next installment, and Mistletoe Murders 5 comes out this November.

He gained widespread acclaim for Happy House of Frightenstein, winning Canadian Screen Awards for Best Writing in an Animated Program or Series (2022) and Best Writing in a Preschool Program or Series (2023).
Ken began his career in sketch comedy with the troupe Brave New Weasels and went on to write for numerous children’s and family series, including The Berenstain Bears, Marvin the Tap-Dancing Horse, and Total Drama. In 2018, he and his wife Michelle Melanson launched Headspinner Productions, creating beloved shows such as Denis and Me and Aunty B’s House.
Ken and Michelle have been married since 2001 and have two children.
