24 in 48 ends tonight at 11:59 pm. Of course, I’ll be asleep long before that. As always, I didn’t get in as much reading as I’d hoped, but had a lot of fun. I still have a couple of hours left too.
Week’s Highlight:
We went to see The Tempest today in Pittsburgh. It wasn’t what I had expected when we first got the tickets, but it was really good. It’s an all-female production. It started with a silent scene in a Pittsburgh hospital room in the oncology ward. Prospero is in the bed, dealing with breast cancer. Prospero begins to dream, and in the dream she is transported to a magical island full of fairies and sprites. The turmoil of the story stems from Prospero feeling abandoned by her family during her illness. Tamara Tunie was a grand Prospero and Ariel was perfect. I would have preferred just the straight play, I think, without the cancer framing, but I really enjoyed it.
Reading:
I’m on page 440 of The Three Musketeers. I’m hoping to finish it by the end of the month, since it’s my Classics Club Spin book. It has been a great way to start my reading this year.
I’ve read 26 chapters Don Quixote, on track with Silvia Cachia’s read-a-long.
I finished Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari. I’ll hopefully post a review this week. It was full of history and has info that fits into a lot of conversations.
I started listening to The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle yesterday. I’m on Chapter 6 right now and really don’t know what’s going on yet.
Playing:
We didn’t play any new board games this week. We replayed Lords of Waterdeep and pulled out Libertalia. Amber’s friend brought over Phase 10, so we all played that. It’s one we haven’t played for years and was a fun change.
Looking forward to:
I’m not looking forward to taking Amber back to college next weekend. 🙁 It’s been nice having her home. She did great her first semester (she got a 4.0) and this semester should be even better. She’s going to be rooming with a friend and one of the classes she’s planning on taking is Icon Painting, which should be really interesting.
That’s awesome on the kiddo front (well not the going back but the grades!). Hope yall have a safe drive back to her school 🙂
Thanks! I haven’t looked at the weather for the weekend yet. I hope it’s not supposed to snow.
Icon Painting sounds very interesting.
I think she’ll really enjoy it. Her classes sometimes make me wish I could go back to school.
I hope to get to Pittsburgh more often when the weather is better.
We go a lot. Downtown is about 45 mins to an hour for us, depending on traffic.
