Reading… Killing the Story by Joan Livingston Listening To… The Egyptian Antiquities Murder  by Sara Rosett Books reviewed last week… The Dark Forest by Cixin Liu Week's Highlight... We went to Shaker Woods on Saturday. With so many things being cancelled, it was nice to get to go to one of the summer craft festivals. We got some yummy food, picked up a Christmas present, and some fun things for at home. Playing... We relearned how to play Biblios. It's a set collection/auction game. The theme is you are an abbot of a medieval monastery competing with other abbots to amass the greatest library of sacred books. To do so, you need to have both the workers and resources to run a well-functioning scriptorium. It's easy to learn, but fun. In the kitchen this week… It's blackberry season in our backyard, so I made a blackberry pie. New to me stuff… We went to a wedding at the Pittsburgh Botanical Garden. I've never been there before. The part we got to see...

I need to start looking for zucchini recipes in addition to blueberry ones. New to me stuff… Kayaking is not new to me, but we kayaked on the Shenango River for the first time Friday. 8 miles on a beautiful day. This week’s to-do list… We have a meeting for work next Sunday that I need to get a bunch of stuff ready for. Blah! Reading… The Turn of the Key by Ruth WareEight Perfect Murders by Pete Swanson Listening To… The Guest List by Lucy Foley Books reviewed last week… None, but I did schedule a couple for later in the year. Watching… No movies, nothing new on TV. Have you seen anything lately that you loved. I did watch a reading of Venus de Milo by the Pittsburgh Public Theater on Zoom. It was cute. Next week they're doing DOT by Colman Domingo. In the kitchen this week… I made a delicious blueberry lemon icebox cake with blueberries from the backyard. New to me stuff… We played Dominion: Menagerie for the first time in Friday. It was fun, as are all the others in that board game series. Today’s to do list… We already got a bunch of bushes trimmed today. We're going to my mom's for dinner and will have to water plants later if it doesn't rain. Looking forward to… We're going to the lake for a few days later this week. Hopefully it will be nice...

Sunday Salon (on a Monday)

Reading… The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware (This is my pool book – a paperback that I’m not going to throw a fit if it gets wet.)Bone Canyon (Eve Ronin #2) by Lee Goldberg (for review from NetGalley) Listening To… The Fifth Season (The Broken Earth #1) by N.K. Jemisin Books reviewed last week… Westside by W.M. AkersA Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine Watching… We went to the drive-in on Saturday to watch Jurassic Park followed by Jaws. Halfway through the first movie, the projector broke and they had to quit the show. We could go watch the second show on one of the other screens, but there wasn't one I wanted to see, so we went home and watched them both on tv for free. Jurassic Park is still good even after 27 years; Jaws was less impressive. We did get two free passes for the drive-in though, so we'll definitely be going back again soon. In the kitchen this week… Southwestern Caesar salad with...

Sunday Salon – 4/26

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. It’s been pretty quiet around here. Not much choice really. I think Ohio might start re-opening some on May 1, but I'm not sure what that will look like or how/if it will change anything for me. Week’s Highlight: We cheated a little and went over to my mom's for dinner. It was nice to hang out with her for a while and she made cream puffs, which I love. Reading: I’ve had lots of time to read, both at home and at work. And I finished two books during the readathon Saturday. Last week’s post: The Automaton’s Wife by Vered EhsaniThe Last Emperox by John ScalziA Bad Day for Sunshine by Darynda JonesGhosts of Tsavo by Vered Ehsani I may have already finished my book for The Classics Club 23rd spin. I'll post a review soon. Looking ahead a bit. The Can You Read a Series in a Month? Challenge hosted by...

Sunday Salon – 4/19

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. It's been pretty quiet around here. Not much choice really. Sad News: Our bearded dragon, Scorch, died this week. We've had him for probably 10+ years. Week’s Highlight: David's birthday was Monday. We ordered got carry-out Mexican and a Dairy Queen cake. Quieter than most birthdays but nice. I've been loving Pittsburgh Public Theater's PlayTime on-line reading series. This week it was A Doll's House, which I had never seen (or read) before. Really wonderful. This Thursday and Friday will be The Mon Valley Medium, written and performed by Alec Silberblatt. The series has become a highlight of my week. Reading: I’ve had lots of time to read, both at home and at work. I started listening to Dune this weekend. I tried reading it a year or two ago, but set it aside. So far, the audio is really good. Last week’s post: A Thoughtful Woman by K.T. FindlayA Little Night Murder...
