Sunday Salon – 4/5

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. We've been staying at home as much as possible, like everyone else. David's working from home and Amber's classes have gone remote. I'm still going in to the office, but I'm the only one there. I could work at home, but I feel like I wouldn't get much done that way. Week’s Highlight: Saturday we went over to a local lake. We didn't see anyone else while we were there, but it was a gorgeous day to be outside. Reading: I've had lots of time to read, both at home and at work. I'll admit, though, that instead of tackling a chunkster classic, I've been reading mostly light cozies. Last week’s post: The Stolen Letter by Paige SheltonMurder in Moscow by Jessica Fletcher and Donald BainResorting to Murder edited by Martin Edwards Watching: We haven't actually been watching many movies or tv yet. I have been enjoying Pittsburgh Public Theater's Playtime on Zoom...

Sunday Salon – 3/15

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. It's amazing how much has changed around here due to the coronavirus in the past week. I hope everyone is staying calm and healthy. Amber's home. Oberlin pushed Spring Break up and then they'll be doing remote learning for the remainder of the semester. We're setting up a corner of the finished basement as her art area and ordered a six foot tall easel, like the ones she uses at school. As of 9:00 this evening, all the restaurants and bars in the state will be closed for dining, they can only do carryout and delivery. We've all seen the flattened curve by this point, let's hope this social distancing works. It might be a long few weeks though. Week’s Highlight: David and I went to see The Chieftains with the Pittsburgh Symphony Monday, before everything was getting cancelled. It was an excellent show. Reading: Next weekend is the #24in48...

Sunday Salon – 3/8

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. Week’s Highlight: David and I went to the hockey game on Tuesday and they actually won. They haven't been winning a lot of games lately. And I had a really yummy milkshake while we were there. https://www.instagram.com/p/B9SyjI6l0u0/ Reading: I've been reading The Radium Girls by Kate Moore. What happened to those poor women is just horrible. The book has me in tears like every other page. It's a well-written, compelling book, but man, it's killing me. Last week’s post: Death of a Ghost by Margery AllinghamDoctored Evidence by Donna LeonBruno, Chief of Police by Martin Walker Watching: We finally watched Ready or Not earlier today. I really enjoyed it, and it was just what I expected. On tv, we've been watching Survivor and an occasional episode of Father Brown. Playing: We played Lords of Waterdeep on Friday. Such a good game! You take on the role of one of the masked Lords of Waterdeep, secret rulers...

Sunday Salon – 3/1

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. Week’s Highlight: David and I went to a Ohio Valley Cloak and Dagger on the Air performance. It was fun. The plays were all time travel based radio plays from the 30s and 40s. You can hear some of their performances on Soundcloud. You can hear one of the plays they did, The Ineffable Essence of Nothing, here. It's an older recording though, not from them. Reading: I finished several books, but only posted one review. A couple are scheduled for later in the year and a couple still need written. Last week’s post: By Its Cover by Donna Leon Watching: We watched The Good Liar earlier today. I really enjoyed it. We've been trying to find a good tv series to watch. Any suggestions? We tried the first couple of episodes of Schitt's Creek and the first of The Watchmen, but neither really struck us. Looking forward to: David and I are going to the...

Sunday Salon – 2/23

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. Week’s Highlight: Our church had its celebration weekend for the opening of our new addition. There was a worship concert, a "revival" evening, and tonight was the Children and Youth Rally. David made the cross hanging on the wall. Reading: I'm having trouble getting into Middlemarch. It's just not holding my attention yet and I'm having trouble keeping track of who's who, maybe because I'm listening to the audio rather than reading it in print. Last week’s posts: Trace Elements by Donna LeonThey All Fall Down by Rachel Howzell HallEgg Drop Dead by Vivien Chien Fitness: Yesterday was my 19th day in a row of getting all four circles on my fitbit: distance, calories burned, stairs, and active minutes. I’m pretty proud of myself. Looking forward to: Saturday we're going to see the Cloak and Dagger On the Air show. It should be fun, and it doesn't hurt that we won the tickets....

Sunday Salon – 2/16

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. Week’s Highlight: Friday was Valentine's Day. David and I went to a Murder Mystery Dinner and had a really nice time. The food was not great, but fine. The Ohio Valley Cloak & Dagger Company did a great job with the interactive show. The mystery was based on a Bachelor-ish tv show, but the bachelor is killed right before the live finale. David won first prize. He was the only one who correctly guessed the killer, motive and weapon. He won some chocolate, a CD of one of their shows, and two tickets to their next "On Air" show in a couple of weeks. We went to one before and it was fun, it's kind of like the old radio shows, so I'm looking forward to that. The cast of The Final Rose Reading: Last week’s posts: The Curse of Braeburn Castle by Karen Baugh MenuhinThe Rivals of Sherlock Holmes...
