Sci-Fi Summer Readathon

Sci-Fi Summer Readathon

The Sci-Fi Summer Readathon starts today. Thanks, Michelle, for hosting again this year. From Season of Reading: Read-a-Thon dates: Friday, June 1 at 12:00am CDT until Thursday, June 14 at 11:59pm CDT. Since science fiction is a very specific genre, this will be strictly reading science fiction during the event. However, since fantasy is so closely related to the genre (often grouped together), if you feel more comfortable reading fantasy, that is also fine. To check in on social media, we'll use our new hashtag #SciFiJune As usual, you do not have to have a blog to participate...feel free to link up and check in from Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, etc. I'm going to try to keep my updates below, but I'm also on Twitter and Instagram. I'm starting off with Lock In by John Scalzi on audio and probably The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein in print. Friday: Listened to about an hour of Lock In (Sci-fi/Mystery). Read 10 pages of The Gray House...

Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge

In case you couldn't tell from my last couple of posts, I'm already in the mood for Christmas reading, so of course I'm joining the Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge that starts Monday. It's hosted by Michelle at Christmas Spirit. From Christmas Spirit: Challenge will run from Monday, November 20, 2017 through Saturday, January 6, 2018, Twelfth Night (or Epiphany for the Christians among us). Cross over with other challenges is totally permitted AND encouraged! These must be Christmas novels, books about Christmas lore, a book of Christmas short stories or poems, books about Christmas crafts, and for the first time...a children's Christmas books level! I'm signing up for the Christmas Tree level which is 5 or 6 books. And, since it lines up so well, I'm also joining Michelle's Christmas Spirit Readathon hosted at Seasons of Reading, which also starts Monday. From Seasons of Reading: Read-a-Thon dates: Monday, November 20 at 12:00am CDT until Sunday, December 3 at 11:59pm CDT (adjust your time zone accordingly...there's a time zone...

HoHoHo Readathon

I love holiday books so I'm joining the HoHoHo Holiday/Winter Readathon! hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer.  I've got some great books, some cocoa in the cupboard, and a comfy blanket, so I should be good to go. Here's my book list. I'm hoping to read three of them. There's still time to join in if you want. There are challenges, a giveaway and a twitter party. This is my first year participating, but it seems like fun. Head over to Caffeinated Reviewer to sign up. The hashtag for the readathon is #hohohorat. Mini-Challenge: Holiday Sentence Reviews by Martha is hosting the Holiday Sentence mini-challenge. "Mission: During the HOHOHO Readathon, pick six titles you have read in 2017 or are reading and make a holiday or winter themed sentence from them. The sentence can be a real sentiment or rather crazy. Use at least one book you are reading during the Readathon among the titles." My sentence: Santa, please bring me a Christmas cowboy,...

24-Hour Readathon – Closing Survey

The Readathon ended this morning, but I was sound asleep by then. Closing Survey! 1. Which hour was most daunting for you? Most of the first half I wasn't able to read much, which was a bit disappointing. Then, I gave in and went to bed around hour 17 or 18. 2. Tell us ALLLLL the books you read! I finished Bones to Pick by Linda Lovely, Santa, Please Bring Me a Gnome by An Swerts, and Sinbad the Sailor. I also read part of The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins. 3. Which books would you recommend to other Read-a-thoners? Cozy mysteries are usually shorter, fun reads. 4. What’s a really rad thing we could do during the next Read-a-thon that would make you smile? The readathon always makes me smile. 5. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? Would you be interested in volunteering to help organize and prep? I'll definitely participate again. One of these days I'm going to make the...
