They exploded one of our bridges today. I wasn’t there to see the implosion but the photos are pretty spectacular. It’ll be odd driving down by the river and not seeing that bridge any more, even though it’s been closed for quite a while. The bridge had been here, crossing the Ohio River between Steubenville, OH and Weirton, WV since 1928.
Wow, that’s some explosion!
That is amazing!!!
Oh my when I first saw this photo I feared a terrible disaster had happened so it was a relief to read your explanation.
Freaky!
AWESOME shot!
I think I’ve been over that bridge. Maybe?
Maybe. There’s like three bridges across the river here.
Hope there will be a better view of the river now!
Nah, it was honestly only a few yards from the “new” bridge that opened in 1990.
Wow. I hope it was well publicized before the explosion. I would have had a heart attack if I was visiting and saw that blow up!
Oh, definitely. Everyone in town knew when it was going to happy and they had the roads down there closed for about half an hour.
Amazing picture, there is something fascinating about watching something be destroyed.
Gorgeous image, but it’s a little sad to see something that men labored over destoryed in an instant.
Oh my. I’ll have to tell my cousin. Her grandparents (not the ones we share) were from there. Her grandfather from Steubenville and her grandmother from Weirton!
wow, that must have been quite the sight!
Amber and I got to watch it live on tv before I went to work. Nothing says father / daughter bonding like a pile of C4.
Holy cow, that is crazy! They blew up our Wilson Bridge here in D.C., linking Maryland and Virginia, a few years back… it’s insane to see something like that. Even though we know intellectually it’s “safe” and controlled, it’s still very jarring!
This picture is so awesome! Why would you want to be there when there are pics like this?
