Week’s Highlight:
My mom and I went shopping yesterday, had lunch and dinner. It was a nice day.
Friday we went to the high school football game. We wanted to see the new turf. It looks really sharp. Out team won 48-3.
Reading:
I finished two from my Classics Club list this week. I really enjoyed both of them.
- Bleak House by Charles Dickens
- Nine Tailors by Dorothy L. Sayers (my Classics Club spin read)
Playing:
We played Eternal: Chronicles of the Throne for the first time the other day. It’s a card game where everyone gets a similar basic starting hand and yes that to buy better cards. You attach and defend using the Mondays and spells in your deck; last person standing wins. I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. It plays up to 4 players, which is good many we had, but in our game David was out like 20-30 minutes before the game ended, which was not a lot of fun for him.
Looking forward to:
We’re going to the lake next weekend for our annual fall trip. It’s always a nice time to be up there. It’s a little cooler – helpful when there’s no air conditioner, the leaves are pretty, and usually we make it to a fall festival. The downside, at least for me, is the lack of cell phone service. Other people find it relaxing; I find it stressful.
I can’t remember the last time I shopped all day. Your day with your mom sounds like fun!
We do serious shopping a couple times a year. To get anywhere with decent shops we need to drive 45 minutes to an hour.
We have a new high school football stadium in our town, which set us back $41 million dollars. That’s quite the stadium, and though it’s walking distance from my house, I have been to a game since I graduated in 1974. Texas and football.
Wow. Bleak House AND your spin. I’m at 14% with my spin. It’s Rumi and it’s like the LSD trips people spoke of taking in the 60’s. At first I didn’t like it, but I’m beginning to get accustomed to it.
Have a wonderful time at the lake. It sounds marvelous (I even like the no-cell-phone part.)
We went to almost every home game while Amber was in high school because she was in the band. Now we go to maybe one or two a year. I don’t really know how much all the upgrades cost.
Sounds like a great day with your mom. Enjoy the trip to the lake
I’m hoping the weather is nicer than today.
Sounds like a fun day with your mom! I enjoyed Bleak House a few years ago… a read/listen combination really helped.
I’ve never tried a read/listen combo. I feel like it would take re-adjusting every time I switched from one to the other,
It sounds like you had a nice week, Carol. I have long wanted to read Bleak House. I am glad you enjoyed it. I hope you have a wonderful time at the lake!
i enjoyed Bleak House more than I expected.
Those Classics sound good. Enjoy the break too.
I hope we get to go. My husband’s sick, nothing major but if he’s still miserable or I catch it, we’ll stay home.
