Reindeer Dust by Kate Dwyer

Christmas is my favorite time of year - even if I hate the cold. So today, as part of A Month of Favorites, I thought I'd share a review of a new Christmas picture book I received this year. A Month of Favorites is hosted by Girlxoxo, Traveling with T and Estella’s Revenge. Today we’re linking up at Estella’s Revenge. When Amber was little, we always put out milk and cookies for Santa, but she's always been an animal lover, so we couldn't forget about the reindeer. They got carrots, but I bet they would have preferred reindeer dust. This is a cute story. Santa's got so many presents to deliver that he doesn't have time to feed his reindeer and, to make matters worse, it's a foggy night. Happily, William has been watching the weather reports and comes up with a plan to help Santa find his and his friends' houses - reindeer dust. Don't worry, the recipe's included in the book. I...

#AMonthof Faves: Picking Favorites

It's been another great week of favorites, thanks to Girlxoxo, Traveling with T and Estella’s Revenge. Today we're linking up at Estella’s Revenge. I loved reading the posts this week, but I didn't realize how many things this month was going to add to my wish lists.  Here's a couple of things I added this week; I may have to buy myself some after Christmas presents. I added Cinnamon and Gunpowder by Eli Brown to my to-read list thanks to Andi at Estella's Revenge. It's one of her top ten twelve of the year. Leah at Books Speak Volumes has convinced me I need a blanket scarf, thanks to her Winter Survival Essentials list. A cute plaid one would be perfect, and a new warm coat to go with it. One post I really enjoyed that didn't make me want to spend money was Traveling with T's Evanovich vs Evanovich. I'm definitely in the Fox and O'Hare camp. What about you? Any "favorites" that grabbed your eye...

#AMonth of Faves: 5 Favorite Winter Reads

For today's #AMonthofFaves post we're picking our favorite winter reads from last winter. A Month of Favorites is hosted by hosted by Girlxoxo, Traveling with T and Estella’s Revenge. Today's link-up is at Estella's Revenge. I'm looking at books I read December '13 through February '14, but only one is very seasonal. The Line by J. D. Horn - I'm not sure if this was really good or if I just happened to read it at the right time. Either way, I gave it 5 stars. The Redbreast by Jo Nesbø - good "damaged" detective, great writing. This was the  first Nesbø I had read. Harmless by Ernie Lindsey - Definitely an odd book, centered around a very unusual character. The Grumpy Shepherd by Pattie Devon - Yes, it's a kids Christmas picture book, but I enjoy it every year. Invitation to Die by Helen Smith - Writers and bloggers and murder, oh my! What were your favorite reads last winter?...

#AMonthofFaves: Favorite Fictional Detectives

Today's post for  A Month of Favorites, hosted by Girlxoxo, Traveling with T and Estella’s Revenge, is supposed to be a book review or a discussion post. Today you can link up at Traveling with T. I read a lot of mysteries, which you may have gathered from some of my other "favorites" posts.  Since today is a "free" day, I thought I'd list a few of my favorite detectives, ones who I've either read or watched this year. 1. Hercule Poirot - I don't remember when I discovered Christie's mysteries. I do remember, when I was young, it was Poirot who I most enjoyed reading about. He had a certain aplomb that I loved. I may not have ready any of his stories this year, but I did watch a couple of the mysteries on PBS. Actually, I take that back, I did read The Monogram Murders, but that's not really Poirot. 2. Miss Marple  - It took me a little longer...
