Do you belong in this day and age? Do you feel comfortable being a citizen of the 21st-century? If you do, explain why — and if you don’t, when in human history would you rather be? The other day the lights went out - for a whole 5½ hours. We gathered up some candles, played a board game, then hung out on the patio with a small fire. But it was not like "being a pilgrim except with cell phones and potato chips. We knew the electricity would be back on, probably sooner rather than later. And I'm glad. I definitely belong in this day and age. I love being able to communicate with people without ever actually talking to them, let alone seeing them. I love texts and e-mail. I like being able to carry a hundred books around with me on my Kindle without the weight of that many tomes, classics and modern novels. I like cement and paved roads and...

Do you consider yourself the outgoing performer or the appreciative bystander? Why? I consider myself the appreciative bystander. I'm not one to get up on stage but I love watching others perform in plays or musicals or even sports activities. I will clap and cheer and love every minute of it. However, I've been playing the organ at church on Sundays lately, definitely performing, but it's still a behind-the-scenes performance. The congregation hears the music but, for the most, doesn't see me since the organist is partly hidden by a wall. I play the piano for the choir anthems, but it's also rather tucked away. I'm not out there on the stage, and that's fine with me. What about you? Performer or bystander?...

Imagine: You’re being exiled to a private island, and your captors will only supply you with five foods. What do you pick? Exiled to my very own private island, poor me. And of course, my poor husband's with me, because obviously he helped with whatever got me exiled in the first place. Days spent reading on the beach, feet buried in the warm sand, or wading in the warm clear water. Evenings watching the sunset over the ocean, being waited on by a wonderful staff my captors also provided. And my five favorite foods to eat. I must have the nicest captors.
