Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge

Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge

So I totally forgot to sign up for Michelle's Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge, so I'm doing it now, but I'm counting books I've read since the challenge started, November 19. From her Christmas Spirit blog: Details:* challenge will run from Monday, November 19, 2018 through Sunday, January 6, 2019 (Twelfth Night or Epiphany).* cross over with other challenges is totally permitted AND encouraged!* These must be Christmas novels, books about Christmas lore, a book of Christmas short stories or poems, books about Christmas crafts, and for the first time...a children's Christmas books level! I'm aiming for the Christmas Tree level, which is 5 or 6 books. I'll also probably read some kids books. I'll keep track of my books here. The Classics Club

The Classics Club

I'm finally joining The Classics Club. Better late than never, right? I've been trying to read more classics and this just gives me an extra push. The Classics Club has been around since 2012. The goal is to “unite those of us who like to blog about classic literature, as well as to inspire people to make the classics an integral part of life.” Here is my list of 50 classics I want to read by March 16, 2023. It's a "living" list, allowed to change and adapt. It’s made up of mostly novels, but there are also a few novellas, childrens books, and non-fiction titles thrown in. The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad review 4/4/19 The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wild The Circular Staircase by Mary Roberts Rineheart review 9/26/18 Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe The Borrowers by Mary Norton The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler review 7/5/18 The Woman in White...

Back to the Classics Challenge 2018

I know I said the Nonfiction Challenge was my last for 2018, but apparently I forgot to actually post this one. It was still in my drafts. It falls into the second category of challenges, too, one that I actually have to go out of my way to read books for. I read several classics in 2017, thanks in part to the Back to the Classics Challenge hosted at Books and Chocolate, so I'm signing up again this year. Here’s how it works: The challenge will be exactly the same as last year, 12 classic books, but with slightly different categories. You do not have to read 12 books to participate in this. Complete six categories, and you get one entry in the drawing at the end of the year Complete nine categories, and you get two entries in the drawing Complete all twelve categories, and you get three entries in the drawing Here are the categories for the 2018 Back to the Classics Challenge. Some of...

Nonfiction Reading Challenge 2018

Nonfiction Reading Challenge 2018

I do two types of challenges/read-a-thons through the year. Some are easy; they're about genres or types of books I tend to read any way. Others are more of a true challenge, pushing me outside of my usual zone, and sometimes those lead me to amazing books that I might not have picked up on my own. The Nonfiction Reading Challenge hosted at Doing Dewey falls into the second category. I think I only read 2 nonfiction books last, both faith-related, and I think I'd like to make it a point this year to read more. This will definitely be the last of my year-long challenges though. From Doing Dewey: Suggested Goals Rather than suggest particular levels for this challenge, I’ve got a couple ideas for different nonfiction reading goals you could set for yourself. Read X nonfiction books Read X% nonfiction Read nonfiction in certain categories – I’ve put together checklists for reading diversely and for reading one book for each century in the Dewey...
