On TV: Bosch (Pilot)

Title: Bosch Writers: Michael Connelly and Eric Overmeyer Category: Police Drama Released: February 6, 2014 by Amazon Studios TV Guideline: TV-MA Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Watch free: Amazon Based on Michael Connelly's best-selling book series, Bosch (Titus Welliver), an LAPD homicide detective works to solve the murder of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial in federal court for the murder of a serial killer. Okay, the "on TV" part of my title might be a little deceiving, but I didn't know how else to phrase it. Bosch is one of Amazon's original tv series pilots. I watched it on my Kindle, mostly because we have an old tv and no x-box or whatever. I like Bosch, so I'm a little biased. I've listened to several of the books in the series, including one that this pilot is partly based on. The concept isn't original. You've got a middle-aged cop with a tendency to play by his own rules. While he's dealing with a civil trial for shooting...

On TV: Sleepy Hollow, Episode 1

I re-read Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" last fall. It's a good story, but I was interested to see what twist Fox was giving it in the new tv series, Sleepy Hollow. Ichabod Crane is not the goofy teacher we remember from the original. This time around, he's an Oxford professor, come to America to fight the rebels, but he eventually joins their side, fighting under Washington. And then he dies. The story picks up 200+ years later, when the dead Crane wakes up via some kind of magic  in modern-day Sleepy Hollow, along with the infamous Headless Horseman. So far it's a cool idea and Crane is kinda sexy. I just can't call him Ichabod- I picture the cartoon character with the huge ears. I also like the cop who Crane pairs up with, Abbie Mills, who actually believes him to some degree because of an event from her past. Crane in modern America makes for some amusing comments,...

RIP on the small screen

RIP on the small screen

I don't usually talk about what I'm watching on tv. However, I did sign up for Peril on the Screen as part of the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril VII event, and these couple series I've been watching are definitely mysterious and maybe a little creepy. Both of these I watch on-demand, by the way, not necessarily on the night they air, which means I may be behind an episode or two. Elementary is new on CBS this year. I was actually looking forward to this Sherlock Holmes remake. As many of you know, I am definitely a Holmes fan, but can enjoy adaptions, re-workings, and unlike my daughter I wasn't terribly put-off by Watson being a woman. Overall I like it so far, but don't love it. I think Watson (Lucy Liu) and Holmes (Johnny Lee Miller) make good partners and I like that there's romantic chemistry between them. Holmes is Holmes, brilliant, witty, insensitive. He's just completed rehab here, so there's drugs involved...
