First a reminder, my giveaway for Montana Destiny by R. C. Ryan is still open. I didn’t love it, but you might.
Last week, I finished two books, both non-fiction surprisingly enough, and a short story.
- Johnny Appleseed by Jane Yolen– a kids book telling the true story behind the legend
- Proust’s Overcoat by Lorenza Foschini – biography about a quirky bibliophile
- “The Adventure of the ‘Gloria Scott’” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – a Sherlock Holmes story
This past weekend we celebrated the Fourth of July here. Firday I had to work, so David and Amber went fishing without me. They claim they caught 6 fish between them, but I’m not sure.
Saturday we had a cookout at our house, then went over to the fireworks in Toronto, Ohio. For being a small town they have a nice display every year.
Sunday we went up to Pittsburgh for the fireworks. We got there a little early, so we stopped for dinner at Packs and Dogs. I’m not usually a hot dog fan, but I had one with bacon, cheddar cheese, onions, and barbecue sauce and it was absolutely delicious. The fireworks were fantastic, as usual, although I think we need to find a better viewing spot next year.
Monday we went to Mom’s for an indoor cook-out. Burgers, chips, etc, but still in the air-conditioning. She also pulled together a bunch of “Minute to Win It” games that were goofy and a lot of fun.
Today, it’s back to work – blah! I did get one book in the mail this past week, Dracula in Love by Karen Essex, which I’m looking forward to reading.
How was your week? Anything you’re looking forward to for this week? Amber’s in drama camp this week so I’m looking forward to their performance on Friday night. She’s playing one of the tailors in The Emperor’s New Clothes.

I am an Amazon associate.
We had a quiet weekend. We don’t like to leave our dog on the 4th, because the fireworks freak her out – she’s losing her hearing, though, and didn’t even hear them this year.
Sounds like you guys had a great weekend, ours was quiet. We didn’t go to the fireworks because of the rain but we did watch the fireworks on PBS.
I can’t wait to see what you think of Dracula In Love. Have a great week.
Mmm I’d like a hotdog, never had a real one
I miss being able to have hotdogs now that I’m pregnant 🙁 I’m not a hug fan but there are some occasions that just call for them!
And Minute to Win It games? I love it!
It sounds like you had a great weekend! I hope you post some pics of the performance of Emperor’s New Clothes! That should be so much fun to watch, especially with your daughter in it!!
Sounds like you had a nice weekend. Prousts Overcoat sounds like a good read 🙂
