BBAW – Fourth Treasure

Sure we’ve all read about Freedom and Mockingjay but we likely have a book we wish would get more attention by book bloggers, whether it’s a forgotten classic or under marketed contemporary fiction.  This is your chance to tell the community why they should consider reading this book! I was looking through my list of "5-star books" that I've read over the last few years, seeing what treasures I found there that I wish would get more attention. Here's a few I found that I loved when I first read them. They each have quirky characters and outrageous plots, even the non-fiction choice. Pipsqueak by Brian M. Wiprud New York City taxidermy collector Garth Carson was seconds away from snagging the greatest find of his career-the original Pipsqueak the Nutty Nut, stuffed-squirrel puppet star of his favorite 1950s kiddie TV show-until a biker, a brawny redhead, and a murder derailed his dreams and stole...

BBAW – Third Treasure

What book or genre have I tried due to the influence of another blogger?  What made me cave in to try something new and what was the experience like? I'm sure there are a bunch of books that I would never have heard of it weren't for being involved in the blogging community, like Last Night in Montreal and The Ace of Spades, two books that are very different from each other but that I truly enjoyed. I think blogging has just made me more aware of the variety that's out there, of new releases, of oldies but goodies that I've missed along the way. One of those classics that I never would have heard of had it not been for other bloggers was The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. To be honest, I'm not sure how I could never have run across it before, but when I finally read it last year I loved it. What's a book or genre...

BBAW- First Treasure

Today is the first day of Book Blogger Appreciation week and we are being asked to highlight a book blog we've come to treasure over the last year. One of the blogs that I've recently discovered is vvB32 reads. I absolutely love the events that Velvet puts together. I think I first ran across her blog during her SteamPink week back in June and was in awe. Then there was the Mansfield Park Murder Mystery and Fairy Tales in Bruges, and now I'm a definite admirer. Her creativity and organization astound me. Right now she's in the middle of a horde of September Zombies , apparently an annual invasion that I find a little scary. What are some of the new-to-you blogs that you cherish? Join in the discussion at BBAW's site....

All about my Blog

Today's meme is a tough one for me. It’s time to show off!  Tell us and this is really important, in 50 words or less what you love best about your blog!  And then in 50 words or less where you want your blog to be by the next BBAW! Honestly, I just love writing about the books I've enjoyed and the few that I haven't. It's just fun, period. I like sharing books; I always have. My blog just gives me more people to share my thoughts with, people who don't look at me like I'm nuts. Well, they might, but I  can't see them so it doesn't matter. One of my goals is to improve my writing and my reviews. Some bloggers are just fantastic at phrasing their thoughts; I'm in awe of them. I'd also like to add some non-review, non-meme posts, still bookish, maybe, but kind of a change from what I usually do....

Me and My Reading Habits

Today there's a fun meme to do over at the BBAW site. Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack? I don't really snack when I'm reading, although a cup of coffee is the perfect companion. Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you? I don't write in books, unless it's a textbook or I'm using it as part of a class. How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open? I used to be a dog-earer, but lately I've been pretty good about using bookmarks. It's my daughter's influence. Fiction, Non-fiction, or both? Both, but mostly fiction. Hard copy or audiobooks? Hard copy, unless I'm on a road trip. Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point? I'll put a book down at any point, when I'm interrupted....

I love Book Bloggers!

I love book bloggers, all of you. It's impossible for me to list everyone whose posts I enjoy, whose recommendations I always follow up on, who just has great taste in books, who has inspired me or challenged me. I did want to take a moment today to mention a few of my favorites who were not short-listed for awards this year. If you get a chance, check them out. They each have their own unique voice and I truly enjoy visiting their blogs. The Movieholic and Bibliophile's Blog Wordsmithonia Everything Distills into Reading Drey's Library Medieval Bookworm I know I'm going to be going through my reader this afternoon and wishing I had added a couple more dozen to this list. Each blogger puts in so much work and effort, sharing their thought and feelings....
