Sci-Fi Summer Wrap-up

Sci-Fi Summer Wrap-up

Yes, the Sci-Fi Summer Readathon hosted at Seasons of Reading ended over a week ago, but I kept forgetting to post my wrap-up. Since this year's readathon was a month long, the goal was to read some science fiction/fantasy, but we could include other genres as well. Here's my list. The titles should link to my posts. Red are science fiction. Originally, the event was scheduled to last two weeks and I didn't have enough sci-fi titles ready when it was extended to a month. And I got a bit bogged down by The Woman on the Edge of Time by Marge Piercy. I still haven't finished it. Has anyone read it? Should I keep going or give up? The Consuming Fire by John Scalzi The Psychology of Time Travel by Kate Mascarenhas The Three-Body Problem by Cixiu Lin A Knife in the Fog by Bradley Harper The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley Death of a Ladies' Man by Helena Marchmont My favorite of the sci-fi reads was...

Bout of Books 25

Bout of Books 25

Bout of Books 25 starts today! This might be just the push I need to make some extra time for reading. Here’s the info: The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01 am Monday, May 13th and runs through Sunday, May 19th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 25 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog (http://boutofbooks.blogspot.com/).  From the Bout of Books team I’m starting today in the middle of Miss Buncle’s Book by D.E. Stevenson in print and Accessory to War by Neil deGrasse Tyson on audio. I'll be keeping progress here. Challenges will generally be on twitter (@carolsnotebook). I'm hoping to also keep up with the photo-a-day on Instagram. I'm at @carolsnotebook. Monday's reading: 42 pages in Miss Buncle's Book Tuesday's reading: 115...

It’s Read-a-thon Time!

It’s Read-a-thon Time!

It’s Read-a-thon time! It’s Read-a-thon time! Today is Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon. I am actually not going to be participating much. I have to accompany kids for solo and ensemble this afternoon and I have to play at church tomorrow, so I'm going to sleep on time. But, Amber's Fall Break will be during the October read-a-thon, so I won't be participating at all then. And I do so love read-a-thons. I'm actually really hoping they do a reverse read-a-thon again this summer. I loved that time format. Opening Meme 1 What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I’m in eastern Ohio.2 Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I’m actually winging it today. First up will be a novella, Moonshine and Murder by Kathleen Brooks and after that we'll see. 3 Which snack are you most looking forward to? I have not planned very well. I'll probably make a stop at the store when...

24in48 Readathon

24in48 Readathon

The 24in48 Readathon just started. This is the first time I'm participating, but it seems fun. From the website: This is the basic gist: beginning at 12:01am (official timezone is EST) on Saturday morning and running through 11:59pm on Sunday night, participants read for 24 hours out of that 48-hour period. You can split that up however you’d like: 20 hours on Saturday, four hours on Sunday; 12 hours each day; six four-hour sessions with four hour breaks in between. You can pause as much as you need, enjoy regularly scheduled weekend activities, nap, stop for dance breaks with your kids or pets or neighbors. Whatever works for you. As always, I'll update here, but I'm also in Instagram and Twitter as @carolsnotebook. I'm starting off with The Three Musketeers, which I'm hoping to maybe finish. I also have a couple of chapters to read in Don Quixote. If I happen to finish The Three Musketteers, or need a break from it, I may move on...

Summer 24-Hour Readathon

Summer 24-Hour Readathon

The Reverse Summer Readathon starts now! I love that it's running 8pm - 8am eastern this time around. I slept in this morning. I don't have anything in the schedule until Sunday morning. I'm looking forward to a lot of reading time. I'm prepared: I've got my snacks, I've got my books, I've got food for meals and plenty of coffee and pop. Updates will be here at the blog, instagram (@carolsnotebook), and twitter (@carolsnotebook). I'm starting tonight at the softball field (my husband's playing a triple-header this evening in the church softball league) but I have the Kindle app on my phone stocked. First up is Picked Off by Linda Lovely. I'm already about 1/4 of the way into it. Opening Survey 1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Eastern Ohio 2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I'm not sure. I don't really have a tbr list set up, so I'm just reading...

So, I think I may be back from my unintended hiatus. There has a been a lot going on lately and I just haven't had much time for blogging. I got a new job in mid-May, which is going really well, but let's be honest, I used to blog while at my old job and haven't been able to do that during my training time. Amber graduated in the beginning of June and has been working on getting all the (on-line) paperwork done for Oberlin. I was out of town for work last week with spotty internet and Amber's graduation party is this Saturday at our house, so we've been spending LOTS of time getting ready for that. I have been getting a little reading done, though. For #SciFiJune, I finished Lock In by John Scalzi and read Unlocked, the short prequel. I also started Head On during the readathon and finished it the following weekend. My other readathon reads were...
