Our Week in Photos

The book they're looking at is Fifty Dangerous Things (You Should Let Your Children Do) by Gever Tulley with Julie Spiegler, which seems really cool actually. We also went to see Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore in the theater, but I didn't have any photos of that....

Back to Normal

I have been so busy the last couple of weeks that I haven't been at the computer much at all. We've had a lot of fun, but I'm kind of glad to get back to my regular schedule this week. Two weeks ago was Vacation Bible School at our church, so all three of us were there every evening from 5:30 to between 8:30 and 9:30, which cuts a lot of time out of the day. This past week, I drove Amber up to Pittsburgh for a day camp. She had a blast spending time in the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, learning and making projects. It's definitely worth the time and I did get some reading done, and some shopping. Somewhere in there we went to a Pirates game, too, and we actually won- always surprising. And David's softball team is into the play-offs now. They won the first game but tomorrow they play the best team in the league, so...

Rehashing the Week

First a reminder, my giveaway for Montana Destiny by R. C. Ryan is still open. I didn't love it, but you might. Last week, I finished two books, both non-fiction surprisingly enough, and a short story. Johnny Appleseed by Jane Yolen- a kids book telling the true story behind the legend Proust's Overcoat by Lorenza Foschini - biography about a quirky bibliophile “The Adventure of the ‘Gloria Scott’” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - a Sherlock Holmes story This past weekend we celebrated the Fourth of July here. Firday I had to work, so David and Amber went fishing without me. They claim they caught 6 fish between them, but I'm not sure. Saturday we had a cookout at our house, then went over to the fireworks in Toronto, Ohio. For being a small town they have a nice display every year. Sunday we went up to Pittsburgh for the fireworks. We got there a little early, so we stopped for dinner at Packs and Dogs. I'm...

Rehashing the Week

First a reminder, my giveaway for Montana Destiny by R. C. Ryan is still open. I didn't love it, but you might. This past week I finished listening to The Deepest Water by Kate Wilhelm, which I enjoyed so much that I've started Death Qualified by the same author, part of her Barbara Holloway series. I also finished Proust's Overcoat by Lorenza Foschini and should have my comments up later this week. Friday night, I started The Devil Amongst the Lawyers by Sharyn McCrumb, the newest of her Ballad novels, one I've been looking forward to. This past weekend, Dave, Amber and I went to the Origins Game Fair in Columbus with a bunch of people and had a great weekend. For us, the weekend starts with a party at my brother's house, a bunch of people, lots of food and games. Then Saturday we went Origins, played a bunch of new games, did some gawking at the outrageous outfits. Here's a list...

Rehashing the week

I had a fairly slow week post wise. The only book I talked about was Peach Boy, a retelling of a Japanese folktale. I also enjoyed the short story "The Museum of Whatnot" by Kevin Wilson. I wanted to take a minute to thank everyone who supported the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life this year. Our team raised more than our goal. Amber actually got to spend the night at the track this year with one of her friends. She had a blast. David and I walked for a while after his softball double-header, but we headed home at about 1:00 am, because while Amber may have still been wired, we were exhausted. Saturday evening we went to a baseball game and the Pirates actually won! Of course, the 1960 World Series commemorative steins they gave away had misprints, which is ridiculous in my opinion. Sunday was Father's Day here, so in the evening we went fishing at Raccoon Creek State Park....
