Another Week in the Books

First, I've got a couple of winners to announce. Congrats to the winners of The Knight Life: "Chivalry Ain't Dead" by Keith Knight. michelle Ryan I hope it gives you a laugh or two. David's team won their softball game on Friday. I think that makes their record 4-2. Amber and I have decided that if David's going to get in shape, we need to too, so she started going to a kid's class at a local gym three times a week. I figure I can workout while she's in class. So far, we're really enjoying it. And our pool's open now. Amber can actually touch the bottom this year. She and David were swimming Saturday and Sunday, but the water's still a little cold for me. I ended up weeding the garden, a major task right now. We kind of let it get a little overgrown. I imagine the two little bunnies that are living in the backyard are going to love the garden,...

Cecile, from All I Want and More, was kind enough to pass on a bunch of awards to a great list of blogger, a list that she was kind enough to include me on. Here are a couple of the awards that I haven't received before. The Bodacious Blogger Award asks me to list the last five books I read, so here they are. Another Week in the Books

First of all, I want to thank Renee at Black 'n Gold Girl's Book Spot for passing this award on to me. It's so happy and certainly brightened my day. This past week I posted a couple of reviews, a cookbook, Family Feasts for $75 a Week, and a really funny collection of comic strips, The Knight Life. In addition to the giveaway for The Knight Life, I'm also giving away three copies of an audiobook, Eat the Cookie...Buy the Shoes by Joyce Meyer. We had a nice Memorial Day weekend. David's team won their softball game, 4-3. Saturday Amber went to a friend's house, so I went shopping with my mom. One of our stops was a grocery store I absolutely love. I'm always amazed by how much more variety than have than the stores in our town. My mom says I'm like Alice in Wonderland when I go there. We had a small cookout at our house on Saturday followed...

Another Week in the Books

First of all, I want to thank Tif at Tif Talks Books for passing this fabulous award on to me a couple of weeks ago. Isn't it adorable? This past week I posted three book reviews. I loved The Miracle Worker by William Gibson and, after reading The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, totally understand why Amber (10) calls the Percy Jackson series one of her favorites. I have to admit that I was a little disappointed by Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout, though. I also have a couple of giveaways still going on, both are for audiobooks. I have three copies of The War Lovers by Evans Thomas and three of Eat the Cookie...Buy the Shoes by Joyce Meyer. I was pretty lousy about keeping my camera with me this past week. In addition to our usual game night, we did a couple of fun things, but have no pictures to show. On Saturday, my Mom, Amber and I went up to...

Another Week in the Books

This week at our house was all about my husband, David, graduating. After 8 years, he finally received his Associates in Drafting and Design. We are all incredibly proud of him. It took a lot of hard work, and some classes he wasn't too fond of, but he finally did it. We had a party at our house that evening to celebrate. Needless to say, I didn't get much reading done, between attending the Honors Convocation, and planning and cleaning for the party. I do have two audiobook giveaways going on right now, though, The War Lovers by Evans Thomas and Eat the Cookie...Buy the Shoes by Joyce Meyer. I received a few books in the mail this past week. Put on Your Crown by Queen Latifah (a win from Freda's Voice. Thanks!) How to Never Look Fat Again by Charla Krupp (a win from Metroreader. Thanks!) The Stolen Crown by Susan Higginbotham (a win from Devourer of Books. Thanks!) The Bordeaux Betrayal by Ellen Crosby...

Another Week in the Books

Even though it was a pretty quiet week, I didn't actually read much. I'm not sure what I was doing, though. The house and yard still need work; I'm not caught up on laundry or dishes;  I didn't go anywhere aside from shopping on Saturday. Oh well. I did post a couple of reviews though. I thought Green Like God by Jonathan Merritt was really worthwhile, at least for me. I was disappointed with The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux, though. It just didn't grab me the way I thought it would. I didn't do anything interesting but on Thursday David and Amber went mushroom hunting. They went to a friend's tree farm and picked morels. The next evening, David cut them up, coated them in flour and then fried them up in butter. Delicious! I remember the first year we did it. I was a little leery, because everyone knows you don't eat mushrooms you find in the...
